(CNN) -- Lou Rawls, whose mellifluous baritone was featured on hits ranging from his own "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" to Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me," has died. He was 72.

Rawls died Friday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He was hospitalized last month for treatment of lung and brain cancer, said his publicist, Paul Shefrin. His wife, Nina, was at his bedside when he died.

What a voice.

He kind of got into some easy-listening type stuff at the end of his career, but he still had a voice made of equal parts chocolate and butterscotch, and he knew how to use it.

RIP, Lou.

I heard about it this afternoon on the radio. :( He has been one of the few male vocalists I really enjoy listening to for years. Luther is gone, Ray is gone, and now Lou. And no one fit to replace them. Sad indeed. :(

I feel just awful about this. We could have saved him by predicting his demise on the "Who's Next" thread.

Do not insult the man.

Many a maid lost their resolve by listening to his records.

Me niether. And I'm not that young. Just on the wrong continent.

Still, seems to have meant stuff to many, and that deserves my hat off. RIP, sir.

Goodbye Lou!

You may be gone, but I am listening to "Lady Love" as I write this. As long as your voice comes out of my speakers, you are not completely gone.

:rose:

He looks a bit like the guy who played the black cop in Miami Vice - it's not him, is it?

(Stop hitting me! I'm young, Swede and a blonde!)

RIP Lou rawls. *removes hat*

Whoever you were.
