Lots of readers but no comments

I seem to have had my story read by quite a few people but nobody has left a comment. It would be nice to get a comment now and then, even if it is to say that my story is crap!

If you post a link to your story here and ask for some feedback, I'm sure some people will oblige. :)

I have no idea how to do that, I am crap at computers.

I'm not much help. But at the bottom of your story there wil be a link. Highlight that, copy and paste to your signature.
Good luck.
I don't get many compliments either. Many people will read stories but don't seem interested in making coments or hitting FAVORITES.
I.m just happy they are reading ours.

Or just start here. Dangough only has one story up, so it isn't hard to reach.

I'm curious, dangough. What do you consider to be "quite a few people?"

It says that there have been 2856 views of the first part of my story, which I think is quite good. What would be the average number of views for someone with no pedigree?

The view count varies between categories and authors. To gauge yours, you could go to the hub page for your category, Sci-Fi & Fantasy (https://www.literotica.com/c/science-fiction-fantasy) and look at how the recently posted stories are doing. Several of the ones posted yesterday are doing as well/better in views than your first chapter, posted two weeks ago, is doing. And the views for your subsequent chapters dropped off dramatically, not reaching the 1,000 mark. So your viewing isn't all that great and the lack of comments pretty much follows what others with your numbers are getting in that category.

Maybe if you asked for some feedback on the stories themselves here, you'd get some insights.

That varies a lot with category and also with time. Usually most of the views pile up while the story is still visible on the New list and in the list for its category. I haven't posted in Sci-Fi/Fantasy, but I understand that might be a good number of views for the category.

The second story I posted got ~1000s of views a minute briefly right after it posted. That slowed down fast, but it still had about 20,000 views in the first day. It was right at the top of the lists for both "new" and in its category. It was posted in Incest/Taboo, which has a lot of readers. The title and short description must have appealed to a lot of people. Even now it gets 30-40 views/day even though it isn't especially well-rated.

By contrast, I have a multipart story that I posted shortly after that one in the same category. The last part (so far) of that story has just over 4,000 views in five months. The title and short description don't pull people in. Most of the parts of that story have more reads, but there are very few comments, and mostly from the same people on each part.

There is a difference between views and reads. I think a story tallies a view each time someone clicks its link, but that doesn't mean they read it. One possible reason for a lack of comments is that people may skim the beginning then go away without reading much or commenting. Sometimes I think too that if a story doesn't grab people then there may not be many comments.

I see some authors requesting comments in notes either at the beginning or end of the story. I'm not sure if that works well or not. Many public comments are useless and some are insulting. Encouraging them has a down side.

Thanks for all the replies, I shall keep writing and hope that at least a few readers will enjoy my silly little tales.

dangough, I read your story and could give you some feedback. I could leave it here or send it to you via private message, but you have to turn PMs on. To do that, click on "User CP" in the upper left of the page, then click on "Edit Profile" on the left side of the net page, then scroll down and enable PMs, and save.
