Has anyone lost a bunch of votes after they do a sweep?

I don't mean a handful or even a dozen. One of my stories just lost about 230 votes and went from 4.91 to 4.87.

Is it just me or has this happened to anyone else before?

Yes it happens but 230 votes sounds a little drastic... unless you have a real fan who keeps voting and voting and voting... or there is a bunch of people on one ISP... that's one of the ways they catch deplicate votes....

What was the total before the sweep.....

It was something like 494.

I've lost 40 or 50 votes in a sweep before, but the last time this story had less than three hundred votes was something like April or May.

It seems odd that there wouldn't be a purge of duplicate votes over the course of several sweeps and just hit now.

This is a major sweep going on right now ( or just finished ). My guess is that with each sweep, new data is gathered about questionable patterns and IPs based upon votes swept during each run. Those votes vanishing off your story may not be related to multi-votes on your story, but instead are being swept because the IPs have a history of questionable behavior elsewhere.

Maybe several people liked your story, and only voted once, but they really disliked someone elses and multi-lowballed it. Or perhaps you have the misfortune to have quite a few regular readers who live down the block from notorious trolls who utilize dynamic IPs to multi-bomb stories.

Or it may just boil down to moving a few places in the IP to sweep multi-votes, catching someone who previously escaped notice.

Most sweeps are probably targeted for specific reasons. To clean up contest entries is the most likely example. They will catch a few other votes, but they are homed in specific stories or date ranges.

This sweep has the feel of a broad based deep-cleaning, perhaps based upon patterns emerging during monthly/special contest sweeps recently.
