Lost Story

I generally keep a list of my favorite stories so I can go back and reread them then I get the desire. I have miss placed the name and author of one of my favorites and was hoping to find it. I am pretty sure it was by one of the better known authors here.

It was about a guy that learned a language for the military, but instead of assigning him to a place that spoke that language he was assigned to Germany(I think). He became friends with a master sargent. He found a woman to teach him German and fell in love with her. She ended up being a spy. Does any of this sound familiar?

The guy is a low officer and the women teaching him is a spy but falls in love and can't do it. He ends up saving her, they get to Hawaii for a vacation. He later marries her. At the end I thing he is a General and worried about his daughter dating. It a great story.
