I'm looking for a bit of help tracking down a story I read probably about a year ago at this point.
It's a first time story told from a male perspective with our hero being a university student I believe in either his first or second year. The story takes place around Christmas, not on Christmas, but around it as the main character is still kicking around his university dorm.
It starts out with him doing some laundry with the communal washers and drying in his building, when a girl comes by (I recall in a towel?), and asks if he can watch her laundry for her. He asks what's in it for him, and the girl (whom I recall being referred to as "towel girl") promises some reward of the flesh should he accept the job. Ultimately, he watches the laundry and she doesn't pay up on her end. Later that snowy evening, and somewhat dejected from the earlier encounter, he decides begrudgingly to head out to a party off campus. When he arrives he grabs a drink, sits down on a couch, and somehow ends up talking with this girl, who claims to be student at the same university. The two of them head back to his dorm together after some time where they watch the directors cut of Donnie Darko, which they both agree was not as good as the original cut of the film. Some sex ensues, and he wakes up in the morning to find that the mystery girl has vanished without a trace. He does his utmost to track her down, even resorting to using the university directory, but finds that no student of her name (that I cannot recall) has ever attended the school.
There's a sequel to accompany this tale that flashes forward what I would imagine to be 10 or 15 years. Our hero had since married towel girl, had a daughter with her, and subsequently separated from her.
Hopefully if anyone knows the name or author of the story this info will be sufficient, but I will be able to provide some more details about either the original or the sequel if it will jog some memories.
