"Damn you, Jared." Charlotte muttered as she trudged down Spring creek trail. She was fit, but she wasn't outdoorsy and hiking in the snow would never be her idea of fun. But Jared had used her credit card to plan the trip, so when she found out he was sleeping with one of her friends, she had broken up with him and taken the trip to Colorado on her own.
The trail map had listed Spring creek Trail as an easy hike. There didn't seem to be anything easy about it. Plus, she was a little turned around and wasn't sure at all that she was heading back to the lodge.
Her dark hair was tied up in a ponytail, she was wearing dark jeans, sturdy boots, and a red coat. She flexed her fingers inside of her black gloves. It was cold, her breath looked like steam. The sun was lower on the horizon than she would have liked.
She stopped to look around, to see if she was going the right way. She heard sounds behind her. But she didn't see anyone. She decided to keep going, but then she heard a twig snap, she looked over her shoulder. She stumbled and fell, twisting her ankle. She rolled down the hill, hitting her head. She thought she might have screamed when she fell but she wasn't sure.
She tried to sit up, but her head hurt. She hurt all over.
