pathetic thread. poor me. poor me. pour me another one.
i just want encouraging words. thanks.

this could be an opportunity - I got fired from a part time job & I walked into another job I didn't even know was there - I was so desperate to keep the food going (poor student) so I just knocked on doors of restaurants and got a great job! Keep the smile on:)

paganangel, I know how terrible you must feel right now. It's always a shock and a blow when that happens. I do, however, know that it's usually time to move on anyway when things like this happen.

I was last fired by Arianna Huffington. Know her? Ex-wife of ex-heterosexual Michael Huffington, of oil fame and failed political career. Frequent Politically Incorrect guest. She was a bitch and made my life miserable anyway. It still fucked with me when she fired me though. I had always succeeded at jobs I'd held until then. It really messed with my self-esteem for a while.

You will get through this and may find yourself in a much happier place when it's done.

Good luck hon,

Ruby

So sorry to hear this and i won't burden you with platitudes about lemonade and silver linings, either.

But, well, ummm....

You're gonna have to go get another one so choose something you really like to do, okay? It'll make your life just that much better if you like what you do to earn the money you need in order to be a fully enfranchised and tax-payiong member-in-good standing of this great Republic.

Words that Always Encourage Me.

Cheer up, paganangel. You know what they say.
Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad.
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble, give a whistle!
And this'll help things turn out for the best...
And...

...always look on the bright side of life!

Always look on the bright side of life...
If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten!
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing,

When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps,
Just purse your lips and whistle -- that's the thing!
And... always look on the bright side of life...

Come on!

Always look on the bright side of life...

For life is quite absurd,
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow!
Forget about your sin -- give the audience a grin,
Enjoy it -- it's the last chance anyhow!

So always look on the bright side of death!
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.

Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true,
You'll see it's all a show,
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you!

And always look on the bright side of life...

Always look on the bright side of life

Come on guys, cheer up

Always look on the bright side of life...

Always look on the bright side of life...

Worse things happen at sea you know

Always look on the bright side of life...

I mean--what have you got to lose?
you know, you come from nothing
-you're going back to nothing
what have you lost? Nothing!

Always look on the bright side of life...

paganangel,

It's okay for you to feel like this for a little while, so don't worry. It's like a mourning of sorts.

Like cymbidia said....try looking for something else that you enjoy doing if at all possible. Also, you just never know what's around the corner for you...this might be one of those moments when you are in the right place at the right time.

I am one of those people who believes in "things happen for a reason". If you look at it from the approach that something better is waiting for you....something just might be.

Good luck to you, paganangel. Please know we're always here for you.

that sucks, i'm sorry it happened to you

Hopefully it's because the universe/whatever you believe in,
has something else for you to be doing...Errghh..i sound like my mum,lol

but yeah..umm **HUGGS** and stuff :)

and you smell good, what a woman:)

Sorry to hear about the job Paganangel. At some stage of our lives we have all looked around and thought... Shit, I don't need this!

*Pist Deb's, you forgot to add "Bugger" to your post :)* (kiwi thing)

Paganangel,

you have many friends who care for you. Count your friends and you will see how rich you are. I think you are very rich. :)

Just think, now you'll have more time to spend at lit!

(ok, so I'm not so good with the comforting words)

In all honesty, my thoughts are with you. Things happen for a reason, doors close for a reason, yadda yadda. Think of it as an opportunity for better things to come.

That is the best thing about losing a job Lavy... believe me. I missed my US nightly lit fix.

Paganangel.... anothe thing will come up, and you will have some time to settle and sort a few things out.

Failing that, hopefully you wont get into trouble.

If it will make you feel any better, I'm getting laid off Dec 14th from a mismanaged airplane company in WA. My attitude is one of freedom, and I also believe it will hurt them more than it does me! I'm a good person, good worker, and it's their loss. You should feel the same way, all those doors are now open to you. All you have to do is decide which one you want. Maybe you want to relocate to another area, maybe be a suntan lotion application specialist in Cabo San Lucas?

** It is only a job, it's what you do, not who you are!**:D :D :D

don't know you, but:

*sends some positive, powerful thoughts over*

Sorry to hear that!

Been there, done that. Three times in my career (so far.)

There have been quite a few people in your spot. Try a search (if it is working!) on old threads here by Sparky, Pacific Blue, Fly on Wall, etc. I have lots of posts with the "practical" advice as well as the "chin up, you'll live through it and be a better person" posts on those various threads. There's lots you can do to help yourself through this. You will know yourself better by the time you are in a new job, and you'll be a stronger person for the experience.

If you want a shoulder to whine on, or more practical advice, or any other help I can give, just email me.

I know what you are going through...

I was fired from a job a held for nearly ten years, and at the time I felt like I was going to lose everything. I liked the job, and was very good at what I did, and to lose it really hurt me. But in the end, everything worked out, I have another job that pays just as well, and I feel good about myself again. Don't worry, you'll land another job. I agree with Cymbidia here, find something you enjoy doing, and do it well, and everything will be fine. Good luck, and let us all know how things are going!

paganangel

What a horrible time of the year to be going through this. I am truly sorry.

Almost a year ago I was "released" (their term) from my job at a major law firm after almost 30 years! This was the only full time job I ever had, and it felt like my world was about to end.

Well, that was followed by a few family emergencies (which I was "free" to take part in because of my situation), yet I find myself still searching. I'm one of many late 40s folks who have been dismissed too early for retirement. Yet despite the laws, there are still many employers who do not want to assume responsibility for the "veterans" of the workforce.

I agree that change happens ultimately for the best and that it's important to now seek something you will truly enjoy. I'm still holding out for that myself, and even at my age, I still don't know what I really want to be when I grow up!

Do you think I can get a job here at Lit?:D

whre i'm at

well tank girl, i didn't get fired, but rather laid off. all in all it's not so bad. i'll go to my hunion hall tomorrow and see what they say. if not there's unemployment. it's too bad, i liked my job and i liked my boss. he got me shitfaced last night and i didn't have to open my wallet.
besides, i can work on the great novel now. i'll probably like being an unemployed writer a lot more than being an unemployed construction worker.

"You are not your job. You are not how much money you have in the bank. You are not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fuckin' khakis." In Tyler we trust.

thanksto all of youby the way

I'll have to ask my unemployed writer friends what they think about it, paganangel.

Should we begin to take up a collection? I can donate a can or two of corn. You can do amazing things with corn these days. It's the peanut of the new millenium!
