Anyone ever experience any kind of loss in muscle control? It seems that I can't make my right hand do what I want it to, although I'm having no sort of pain associated with it. Everyone is telling me to go see a neurologist and is scaring me with the horrible possibilities of what it could be. That is not something that helps, obviously. Anyway, if anyone could enlighten me a bit...I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh, and I am going to see my family doctor about it tomorrow.

Ok, deep breath, first of all, don't panic, that never helps anything.

It is possible you have something as simple as a pinched nerve. When you go to see your family doctor, push for a referral to a neurologist. Most family practice physicians do not have the experience to treat neurological disorders. Absolutely, ask questions and do not stop until every one has been answered.

Please do not put off having this treated. Loss of muscle control is a serious symptom and should never be ignored. My mother has ALS and it was one of her early signs (Keep in mind ALS is EXTREMELY rare, especially in someone your age.)

Huge hugs and many prayers, I will keep you in my thoughts.

-Ok, that sounded more panicky than I wanted to. Taking my own advice and a deep breath, a good doctor will look for the simple solutions first because they are the most likely. Yes there are nasty illnesses out there, but most are not common. Something out of alignment in your arm or shoulder can cause poor muscle control without pain.

What Kitten said. This is a very serious sign that something ain't right. It could allso be something minor, but it is not something to postpone. See your Dr. tomorrow.

Mel,
I would also suggest you go to the neurologist.. The are several different things that may have happend and the only way that you will be able to narrow down the possiblities is go to see the doctor.. I recently had a friend I work with that had something that happend to him at work that sounds a lot like what happend to you.. The doctors finally narrowed it down to a small stroke or migraine headache.. The later is the one that they finally decided on.. scared the hell out of him and all of us because he is quite few years younger than the other people at work.. Just go get it checked out..

Melody,

There could be tons of reasons why you're having trouble, from the "biggies" to much smaller and very easily treatable things such as Carpal Tunnel syndrome, or, as mentioned, pinched nerves.

Please see your doctor, because whatever the problem, it probably won't go away unless treated!! Don't let the fear of the unknown keep you from finding out what's wrong.

Good luck!!

I had something similar about a year ago. Not exactly what you describe, but that all the muscles in my left arm from the shoulder down were, for lack of a better term too tense.

It turned out to be a rotator cuff problem. Then, anyway...

Not to scare you, but I suffer from MS (very mild for now), and I sometimes get a similar sensation. Odds are very, very good that that's not it, so don't worry too much, but do get it checked out. That way if it's something minor, which it probably is, you'll save yourself a lot of worry, and if it's not minor you can get it treated early.

Patryn funny you should say that (well figuretivly speaking), a friend of mine was diagnoised with MS a few years back, they found it because she got pins and needles through her legs.

Meleody, good luck and please be sure to let us know what is happening, we all worry about you babe.

To anyone else here that sees this thread, for gods sake people if something is a miss or you have pain go to the doctor please. Our friend almost died this past week due to a perferated Ulcer, he didn't think it important to see his doctor, if the Paramedics had arrived ten minutes later he would have been dead.

PLEASE see a doc before things get out of control.

Well, I did go to see my doctor today, afterschool. Of course, she has no clue...and referred me to a neurologist. Fun, fun...in the mean time: Writing has become a damned difficult task...as well as starting my car and grasping anything with any kind of strength. Plus, I can't practice taking blood in school(training to be a medical assistant)!! I really like doing that too, damnit!
On the bright side, I'm not in any pain...gotta be thankful for the small things.

Thanks for the input and concern--it is appreciated.

I had Carpal Tunnel, which left me with a certain amount of control loss, pain, and a definite inability to type. It took me a good six months of drugs and brace wearing to make it stop. Even now I can feel it creep back if I type too long.

Good luck, Sweetie. Hope it's nothing.
