The British Academy Of Film And Television Actors has awarded The Lord of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring 5 BAFTA Awards
including Best Picture: Best Director: Hair & Makeup: Special Effects:
Russell Crowe also picked up a BAFTA for Best Actor for his portrayal in "A Beautiful Mind".
A momentous day for the New Zealand Film Industry and a proud day for New Zealand.

Next stop, Hollywood and The Oscars. 13 nominations including Best picture and Best Director for SIR Peter Jackson. (OK, so he hasn't been knighted yet, but thats just a formality...:D )

Fantastic news! Thanks for sharing that Draco, I hadn't heard yet!

:)

Go Peter Jackson and Russell Crowe.

:rose:

Cool.

When I move to New Zealand I am going to your bar :D

Cooooooooool news :)

Hey everyone reading this... Debbie, Draco, Kiwi Wolf and myself live in Middle Earth if you had not figured that out yet, lol.

Azwed, I'll be the one in the corner sitting on the bar stool drinking the shitty purple stuff. Come on over and I'll buy ya a drink :D

Draco that is fantastic news!! I want to see that picture so bad, and have yet to see it. I really want to see it before it leaves the theaters. Thanks for the information buddy!!

Todd:)

Bafta Awards Show

I watched the Bafta Awards show tonight and Peter Jackson did us Kiwis proud. He gave NZ the "big ups" for all their love (aroha )
and support. I can now remember what the fifth award was for...the MOST important one of all in my eyes.

THE PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD FOR MOVIE OF THE YEAR...!!
I missed the broadcast when they announced the news at 12.00 on TV One.

P J (or should that be Sir P J,) you rock and you make me proud to call you one of my countrymen. LONG LIVE LOTR....:)

that other kiwi film moulin rouge picked up two baftas as well
jim broadbent for best actor in a supporting role and best music
a lot of the awards were presented by hollywood stars like halle berry because the awards were televised in the us for the first time
prepare for the oscars THE BRITS ARE COMING !! [looking over our shoulders at the kiwis];)

Pablo, you've lost me there. I dont think Moulin Rouge had anything to do with New Zealand. The star (Nicolle Kidman) is an Australian and the film may have been shot in Australia too...I'm not sure on that score.

But Nicolle can come and live with me if she wants, I'd soon have some "Kiwi" in her....muhahha

Wait.. I thought I was all alone there... How come I never see you guys????

Too bad Tolkein lost out when he sold the rights for LOTR.. He sold it $14,000 dollars in the 70's... (can't remember how many pounds it was)...

Tolkein was a shear genious, he pretty much started the whole fantasy fiction craze... Shortly followed by C.S Lewis with the Narnia Chronicles also known as The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe Amazingly Tolkein and Lewis were good friends..

Sorry for boring you all with that bit of info

Dusty...??

Are you a KIWI too.??...if so..welcome, welcome, welcome. Which part of our fair isles are you in...I'm in Christchurch.

Oops.. I was being dense I guess... I wasn't thinking of it as a New Zealand thing but merely a fantasy world thing. Sorry was being silly actually...
I'm a ummm... Texan/Missourian.. lol

Peter Jackson and his crew deserve every award they have gotten and they also deserve all thirteen oscars. I have seen the movie three times and I loved it every time. Of course I am a big Tolkien fan (and CS Lewis fan for that matter).

You Kiwis have every right to be proud of PJ. And the scenery of your island nation is really stunning.

By the way, what exactly does "Kiwi" mean?

NZ may have been Middle Earth in the film, but the real, original Middle Earth is where I live - the English south west midlands from Oxford to the Welsh border.
And just to rub it in, the Narnian Lamp post is on the hill that I see from my window!
So there! Nyahh, nyahh, nyahh!
By the way the natives are very small round here!

The Kiwi is the national bird of new Zealand. Also we are the major growers of Chinese gooseberries which over the years have come to be know as Kiwifruit :)

In the pic is the Kiwi bird :)
