I have a theory. People that are well-balanced on-line are well-balanced off-line. People that use the internet to create a persona are using that character to fill a void. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. For example, you have to be brutish because you can't vent like this in real life. You simply could not survive on a daily basis spewing such venom. For some people, the character is a phase. For others, it's not.
