poems. I am doing a project, and need a poem...something kind of dark. Does anyone have a link to a sight or a favorite one they would like to share? Either one by someone famous, (but please let me know who so I can give proper credit) or something that they may have wrote and would like to share. (once again.. I will give proper credit.) If you want details of what I will be doing with it, just pm me and I will get back to you. Thanks:D

Have you thought of Poe? Both of the following poems refer to the death of his child bride and cousin, Virginia. He married her in 1836 when she was not quite 14 and she died in 1847 of tuberculosis.

Annabel Lee

or

Lenore

Concientious Objector by um... Edna St. Vincent Milay, I think, might suit you. Most major poets have some which are rather bleak, this one straddles the line.

Always been partial to Poe's The Raven,

Or for bleakness. Some T.S. Elliot.

The Human Abstract, by William Blake (from his book Songs of Experience). It's my favorite dark poem. I'm sure it's on the net somewhere, but it's not that long so I'll just post it.

Pity would be no more
If we did not make somebody poor;
And Mercy no more could be
If all were as happy as we.

And mutual fear brings peace,
Till the selfish loves increase;
Then Cruelty knits a snare,
And spreads his baits with care.

He sits down with holy fears,
And waters the ground with tears;
Then Humility takes its root
Underneath his foot.

Soon spreads the dismal shade
Of Mystery over his head;
And the caterpillar and fly
Feed on the Mystery.

And it bears the fruit of Deceit,
Ruddy and sweet to eat;
And the raven his nest has made
In its thickest shade.

The Gods of the earth and sea
Sought through Nature to find this tree;
But their search was all in vain:
There grows one in the Human Brain.
