Man in the story is in his thirties. Wife died a few years earlier. They had a son now 6 or so years old. Dad has a long-standing sitter that’s now a college senior. He’s also friends with her parents. His sister recommended the girl as his sitter.
At the beginning of the story, dad and son are at an amusement park for dad’s birthday when he gets a text from the sitter wishing him a happy birthday. Through a couple of texts she gets invited to join them, but she also makes it clear she’s offering herself to him. She ends up spending the week with him, and they basically become a secret couple. Sister and her husband come for dinner and sister figures it out and confronts her brother. He tells her to mind her own business. A few days later, the girl’s parents come over to have their say.
