I read this story a few months ago and I want to find it again.
The story starts with the photographer as a boy, maybe 12 or 13 years old. His best friend is a girl his age and they do everything together. He shows her all the photos he takes.
But the girl gets sick and dies. And the boy is devastated but he lacks the awareness to express his deep sorrow and extreme loss.
The story fast forwards to about 10, maybe 15 years later. The guy, now a professional photographer, often shoots weddings. He has a job to shoot this wedding and he sees this young woman amongst the many guests. She somehow gets his attention but doesn't hang around. He is intrigued because there is something about her that draws him. But at this first encounter, he cannot find her again.
He also meets another woman who he discovers is the wedding planner. They chat and seem to connect.
As time passes, he keeps catching glimpses of the mysterious woman at wedding receptions but cannot actually talk to her. But it happens that the wedding planner woman is in charge of several of these weddings also and so he begins to get to know her. He also discovers that she is a widow.
As the story progresses the photographer keeps getting quick glimpses of the mystery woman but he also starts running into a guy who seems to know who the mystery woman is. This mystery guy talks to the photographer a bit but never says a lot.
The wedding photographer and wedding planner become lovers and eventually they get married. At their own wedding reception, they discover that the mystery woman is the ghost of the photographer's long lost best friend and the mystery guy is the wedding planner's late husband.
