I am looking of a story I read over a year ago.
It's quite a long story, meaning it has quite a few chapters. Don't remember exactly how many chapters but maybe at least 10, maybe 12, or 14. But I don't think it was more than about 14 chapters.
Story line - The protagonist, is a guy, recently graduated from college, who is recruited and hired by a major company. Can't remember exactly why he is hired, but it might be that he presents himself very well at all of the interviews. I do remember that there are 2 upper level managers who do all the talking and negotiations with the applicant.
So the protagonist is hired and soon he meets the company's attorney, who is a woman who is probably in her early 40's. I think the attorney has her own firm and the company simply retains her services. I can't remember why or under what circumstances the protagonist happens to meet the attorney or talk with her but soon he meets the attorney's daughter, a young woman about the same age as himself. The protagonist and the young woman start dating.
Fairly soon in the story, the two hiring managers, tell the protagonist that he should devote most, if not all, of his time to the young woman he just met (daughter of attorney). My memory is that they don't tell him why.
Before long the protagonist is angry that his managers have told him this and he threatens to quit and soon actually does quit because of this. He continues to date and see the young woman, however.
Since the story has many chapters, many events transpire and I don't recall when or why but the protagonist and young woman have some sort of falling out or maybe even a breakup. But at the very end, there is some sort of situation where the police are called and involved but I cannot remember details or the why behind it. But the protagonist and the young woman reconcile at the end.
There are additional characters in the story, but I cannot remember any significant details about any of them.
Anyone know the title and/or author of this story?
