I read this story more than five years ago, and now I can't find it. Have tried extensive Google and tag searching. Here's every scene I can remember in roughly the order I remember them happening.
Story is set in the days of swords and horses. Very primitive technology; like maybe the iron age. There's a prologue of a young warrior coming to see an old priestess to ask about what warrior clan to join. He's thinking of joining the one the priestess used to be in (or still is?) The rest of the story is a flashback of how the priestess came to join that clan as a young woman,.
The main character is a young woman who is something of an outcast in her village. She mentions that, because she is frequently raped by the young male villagers, she has taken so much of an herb that prevents pregnancy that she suspects she is now infertile.
One day a clan (tribe?) of raiders shows up and starts killing the men in her village and raping the women. I was reading this back before Game of Thrones was on TV, but in retrospect these guys remind me of the Dothraki. Protagonist decided that if she's going to be raped, she may as well make the most of it, and so she picks out the warrior she thinks is the most attractive and goes to him to initiate sex. She moans very loudly during sex, and we later find out this has some special significance in this warrior tribe.
There's a scene where she sneaks out of the chief's tent to use the bathroom at night, but doesn't try to run away, but the chief chews out the guard that was supposed to be watching her.
She gradually becomes like the chief's wife and also a sort of sex-priestess for the entire tribe as they journey, and also starts to display some telepathic abilities. I specifically remember her being able to tell a horse is pregnant, and watching one of the warriors haggle with a merchant and her finding it amusing that both men are lying and they both know it. At some point they also find some old boats washed up on a beach, and the warriors don't know what they are, but she does because she is able to have a vision of it when it was still in use.
Eventually they make there way to some sort of big gathering of the various warrior clans where they compete in Olympic-like games. I think I remember something about how her sex-moans echo across a lake at night, and all the other warrior-clans hear it and comment on it the next day.
