Hello everyone!
Hope this is the right place for this. If not, I profusely apologise - I'm new on these forums!
Some background: I've been writing my fantasy series for a few years now, and in doing so have had a hell of a lot of fun and even gained some fans along the way. I doubt anyone here knows of my little series (it doesn't get too much press) but I do really enjoy the fantasy setting and always thought it might be fun to create a setting/story with other people. I try to do that at the moment by encouraging fans to send me story ideas which I turn into short stories with my characters, but it's not really taken off.
I've seen the chain stories on Lit and some of them are genuinely fantastic, and I can't help but think it must be amazing fun to be part of creating something like that. It seems to me to let the author indulge in her/his own fantasies in writing their own sections, but still be surprised by and amazed by those produced by other people. A best of both words scenario, if you will.
So I'm putting feelers out there to see if anyone else with an interest in fantasy (or science fiction) stories would like to collaborate. I'm thinking that an ideal number would be four or more, allowing a real melting pot of ideas and characters, and a plot following vastly different tastes and themes. Of course, I could be completely wrong in that assumption, and people may be able to shed some light on whether more or less than that is better.
I have no real preference as to the setting per se. My "Sisters of the Cohort" series follows very generic fantasy lines in order to allow readers to immediately feel comfortable in a familiar world full of elves, swords and orcs. I'm very happy to write in another typically medieval-Europe themed fantasy world. Equally, however, I'm agreeable to something darker and more gothic, or even an entirely new fantasy setting that would require serious creation.
As regards the plot or length - well, I'm leaving that up to discussion if I can get a few people on board with the idea. I suspect the plot will be roughly shaped in advance, but with a huge amount of leeway for people to generate their own twists within the remit of their own chapters. It seems to me that it might be a nice idea to let authors have a handful of their "own" characters whose fate they largely pre-determine for others to follow; in practice, however, I don't know whether this works.
I'll probably find now that there's no interest in such a collaboration and this thread dies with no replies, but if I don't ask then I'll never find out.
Thanks for reading!
