I'm thinking D&D or BESM. I know this has been tried before, but I really think it can work.

I have MSN and I was thinking we could play via that, but if you know of a chatroom that allows whispers/private messages and doesn't require you to download anything, then we can probably use that instead. Games would probably be every weekend.

Anyway, if you're at all interested, I'd like to know.

I have 14 books and yet have only played a character one time. I'll consider it, although downloading msn isn't my first choice. I may know of a chat room. I'll have to check.

what's BESM? is it like D20 Modern? if so I'm in.

oh, I don't have 3.5 yet.

I know that feeling, I finally broke down and bought the Dm guide and the handbook with christmas money how ever. Set me back a little but I was tired of translating classes back to version 3.0. Also I like rangers.

BESM is Big Eyes, Small Mouth, an anime based RPG system. The main book is small but it grants lots of options.

actually 3.5 is online for free. I meant I don't have 3.5 like I don't have the cool stuff. Like the expansionary stuff.

I'm up for it. I don't have BESM, but if you guys know of a way, I'm in, definitely.

Yeah I don't have BESM. sounds interesting though.

Okay, looks like we have the players. The BESM manual is pretty small and only costs 25$, but there's another edition with all the extra art and flavor text cut out that's cheaper if you don't want to spend that much (I use the Revised Second Edition rules. It should say that on the cover). Failing that, we'll play using the 3.5 D&D rules instead, but I'd really prefer it if we could use the BESM rules. They're real easy to learn, too.

I have a skeleton of a plot set up, and I'll get to work on fleshing it out a bit.

I know 3.5 has an open source online, is there a BESM open source? I don't know if I can even find it.

There are 2 versions of BESM ... the original D6 Tristat or the newer D20 version ...

:D

Yeah I have the books ...

nice new AV Arc, D6? is it an opposed roll system?

Pretty much.

There are three stats: Body, Mind, and Soul. You get a number of character points (assigend by the GM) that you can spend on them. Any points you don't spend on stats can be spent on Attributes, which are basically special powers or qualities (such as Own a Big Mecha, Super Strength, Organizational Ties, Telekinesis, all kinds of Special Attacks, etc.). Similar to feats in 3/3.5e D&D, but a lot more versatile and impressive.

And after that are skills, which aren't used in some games. These cover things like tracking, artistic abilities, planning, driving, cooking, weapon skill (in some games), and so on. Not unlike skills in 3/3.5e D&D.

The combat system isn't unlike GURPS'. You have an Attack Combat Value (which is the average of your three stats) and a Defense Combat Value (which is ACV - 2). Success or failure in combat is determined by rolling 2d6. If you roll you ACV or less, then the target rolls 2d6, and if he rolls his DCV or less, then the attack is blocked/ dodged/ defelected/ etc.

It's a simple and very flexible system, and I like it a lot.

interesting, if I have time I'll pop in the game store, or somewhere and try to find it. I dunno if I really wanna buy it, I think I'll just go there and make my character lol. If it's really a great system, I'll think about buying it though, yeah I know I'm a cheapskate.

I know they redid gurps, but I don't recall the combat system being like that. Then again I did resad the basic set probably 3 years ago and normaly played with guns which needless to say don't get blocked.

I'm not at all familar with besm or DnD 2.0 revised rules. My extent with those rules is playing buldars gate 2 and disliking it. As for BESM, I do have the rules to BBSW (Big Boobs, tiny waist) on my other computer, I think they are funny as hell to read.

I'd willing to play 2.0 revised DnD but that would be fairly hard to learn. BESM shouldn't take as long to learn especailly if you find a souce code.

3.0 or 3.5 I can jump right into witgh little trouble, but it you aren't familar with the rules star thats probably not a good choice.

I'm very familiar with the rules, actually. While I haven't run a game before, I've played several 3.0 D&D characters.

Oh well never mind then.

3.0 or 3.5 is wear my vote goes then.

(I want to try out the scout class)

D20 Modern is great for adaptability, I'm not sure what setting you were going for, but if you wanted something in the future, D20 Modern has all resources there, I don't know if you have that stuff though. It's like a D20 version of Alternity.

I thought d20 was pretty much doungeons and dragons under a difrent name. It was so they could do future and modern stuff. Also heard they were makeing an erotic manual, which I thinmk would be funny. Any how this was stuff I heard about five months ago.

To be quite honest about the erotic manual I don't know.

Actually D20 Modern is has a few classes (Strong, Fast, Intelligent Heroes) I might be missing one or two. Anyway, you start as a hero and you have prereqs. for every class. Advancement in other classes work as normal I think.

D20 Modern the way I see it is an updated version of Alternity considering that in the future setting there are many things taken directly from Alternity. It can be percieved as a Modern version of DnD but the system is quite different, so it depends on perception.

Side note: I liked alternity a lot.

Some how I thought this thread was deleted. Seeing how it's not how ever, I've prepared the fallowing statment.

Ah, okay so thats what D20 is. Oh I'm not familar with alternity.
