I am looking for new Red Wine Glases. Just curious as to what you thought of these 4 and what you'd choose.

Just curious. If you have another brand, these are Spiegelau , but if you know of another brand, please let me know. I'm a big red wine drinker and would like 4 nice glasses to drink it out of. Start a collection I figure.

Thanx,
~Stephen

That first one's lovely - have you seen the choices from Riedel?

I like the Bella Donna I think. Not sure if I want the etchings on the glasses. Hence why I like the first one as well.

I have never seen anything from Riedel. You got a web site?

I'm not much on the designs that flare back out at the top, but it's personal. I have some antique cut crystal and a small collection of Riedel for when the everyday glasses just don't strike my fancy. They have several "series" at Riedel, I tend to favor the "Vinum" collection, which includes the 4 pieces below.

Riedel glasses are superb.

I tend to agree with a wine writer I read recently, the bigger the glass, the bigger the flavour.

I agree. It gives it more surface area allowing it to breathe more.

Introduced in 1986, Vinum was the first machine-made series of glasses in history to be based exclusively on the characteristics of grape varietels.

Developed by Georg Riedel on the principle that the content commands the shape, is the Vitrum-Vinothek" for every day use. Vinum is made of over 24% lead crystal. Here's one at a better scale:

Lukky is correct, Riedel glasses are top notch.

As far as style I prefer a medium flare , wide but not cavernous mouth, and the simplest of lines. I have always found that the simpler the glass, the better it looks ont eh table with wine in it.

Another vote for the Riedel.

Of course, if you're drinking MD 20/20, you might want to check out the line by Dixie.

INAO glasses

This sampling glass has been design by the INAO (Institut d'Des Apellations Contrôlées) to concentrate the wine aromas and give the best look at the wine color.
The INAO is the french agency responsible of the application of the Aoc criteria. The lucky people working there are paid to sample wine. This glass is their working tool.

of the ones you have shown, I rather like "favorite"

the problem with all of them is that they're so fragile you can expect them to break. Just plan for it now. LOL

If you live near a Macy's, I'd suggest going to look at their open-stock barware. It's inexpensive, durable, and attractive.

ROFLMAO!!

OMG! Don't I know it!!!! Woohoooo, MD 20/20 or Thunderbird can only be best savored by sipping from a dixie cup or guzzling straight from the bottle. Brown bag bottle cover is optional. ROFL! I love how you think, Hamletmaschine!!

I have the feeling that if she's drinking with you, cans can do.
But she worths good glassware.

Go with Waterford.
They make HUGE red wine glass that absolutely rocks.
The crystal is not thin at all and they don't make near as nervious.

Wow, I don't think I've found a single broken link there - how curious.

Let me add an endorsement to Waterford, but Spiegelau (or however that one's spelled) is certainly more than adequate, too. Mostly I rely on very simple, functional, glass goblets you can find in most any decent store. When you want something more what matters most is that you LIKE it yourself, not the name.

I have Miksa "Artic Lights". The red wine glasses have the classic bowl shape elongated. I love the champagne flutes at they are tall and slender, the design when looked at from the to is like a flower. They also make a full range of bar-ware and white wine glasses. I guess it depends on the rest of your table ware. As an aside, I've seen artic lights in several movies so I guess Hollywood has good taste!
Whatever you get, best of luck and ejoy.

Of your choices, I prefer the clean lines of the Adina, but I agree with Nora that it's extremely fragile and prone to breakage. A few years ago I switched to cut lead crystal which have held up very well. They're more traditional looking than your choices. I've found that men in particular appreciate the substantial weight and feel of the glasses. These do not feel like the stem will snap off if you hold it too tightly.

I voted for the Adina, since you apparently have your heart set on paying for the name as well as the style.

I've seen very similar wineglasses made by Libby Glassware in Walmart, K-Mart, Target, et al for about what you'd pay for shipping on any of these.
