MC has a rival. I don’t remember many details. As I recall, the rival aquires the company the MC works at, and pushes him out. Rival also manages to seduce MCs wife. MC manages to survive by staying with a female coworker. He eventually starts over and slowly falls in love with the former coworker. Towards the end of the story, MC and new wife are at a formal dinner/dance where they encounter rival and ex-wife. Rival makes a comment something like “Michael wins again.” MC’s ex-wife is not pleased that her husband (the rival) for saying this.
