It seems to be really hard to find an editor to help me. There's a huge long list, but no one ever replies to my enquiry. Is it me or is no one out there?

From all accounts, the Volunteer Editors list has a lot of non-active people on it. You might do better to post on the Editor's Forum*, giving info about what sort of work you have (length & content) and what sort of editing you're looking for (story or proofreading).

*which really ought to be "Editors' Forum", surely?

Make a thread here describing your story (category, themes, word count, type of editing you're looking for etc)

Thank you everyone - you can tell I'm new

You are welcome! (as long as you don't try to steal BT from me or LaRascasse. We are filthy dirty fighters and will skip you in Free Association if you do )

Beware trolls when the moon is at three-quarters. Don't post stories in Loving Wives unless you have a highly developed sense of humour. Do not believe anyone who says you have to post pix of yourself naked to come in here - no, not even in Naked Party, that is just a place where we have a virtual drink and catch up on gossip. Come in here and ask sensible writing questions and you will almost always get a good response.

:rose:

PS If you are really struggling you can try reading around to find an author whose writing style you admire. If you send them flattering emails about how much you love their writing, they may be persuaded to edit for you.

Finding an editor is a bit like finding a childminder. The good ones tend to have their hands full already. You have to nip in when they have a gap and snuggle up to them quickly. Show them your gorgeous well-behaved child ... I mean story, and they sometimes are so taken with it that they reluctantly agree to help out. Then they are yours! forever. Mwaa hahaha.

:)
