looking for a story

i read a story here about a kid in highschool back in the 1970's who falls in love with a classmate. the last chapter i read had him getting tested by the chick setting him up in a situation with her best friend. The autor wrote an alternet(sp?) ending with him hooking up with the friend. If anyone knows this story please let me know what it is
