Hi there, every few years I emerge from the shadows hunting down a tale that I read in my youth, and now I have this plot stuck in my head and can't track down the tale.
The story is quite specific and was titled something along the lines of "Escalation" or something. Now that I recall it to myself it reads like a TV drama.
The story unfolds in two perspectives, one a cop/detective (male) and his friend (female) are trying to track down 2-3 men that are committing rapes in the city. The story is told in multiple parts with the rapists getting ever bolder and more aggressive and more violent. At one point snatching a girl from the store where she works in broad daylight.
At the end of the story, the cop's friend puts herself up as a bait, to lure the criminals. They find her and a shoot out ensues with the rapists killed/caught in the process.
