First California is trying to put secession on a ballot initiative, now Oregon.

Assuming they get the requisite number of signatures, exactly how is that going to work? Lincoln already established that the Republic is a one way street. You can get married but there ain't gonna be no divorce. Til' death do us part.

But just for the moment let us indulge ourselves with the fantasy that they're actually allowed to get away with it. How are those newly minted nations going to fare?

With what other nations are they going to sign a 'mutual defense' treaty? I mean they've already virtually disarmed their populations and if they leave the Republic all of those military bases, and the associated equipment, even the equipment used by their National Guard, goes away. Will they join NATO, SEATO, form an alliance with Mexico? Do they think they'll be allowed to align with China? Good luck with that notion.

Where are they going to get their food? Of course I know that California's central valley grows veggies. Is citizen going to turn Vegan?

Are they going to accept all the illegals that the rest of the Republic is going to kick out? And are their taxpayers going to stand for that, and if so for how long?

Which parts of California and Oregon going to secede from those newly minted nations and petition to rejoin the Union? I hazard to guess they're going to lose vast tracts of land. And exactly what are those toothless giants going to do to stop that from occurring?

I don't think anyone behind those petitions has bothered to think it though.

Cut off Federal money and they will surrender quickly.

;) ;)

Their public service sectors are the worst pyramid scheme since AMWAY.

You have to think most of the big corporations (especially the defense corps) would move back into the states. There goes their corporate tax base. That's going to take a lot of personal income tax to make up for their loss. Not to mention, no more $$$$ from Uncle Sugar.

That's already happening. Vat deals with major corporations (if you don't employ 2500+, don't call). Five of his clients have already moved from CA. to TX. and that was before Trump. It was as a result of 'Moonbeam' Brown being elected Governor. But you're right, the flood gates will open.

Yes.

Liberals don't get to decide which laws they want to ignore.

Let's put pot and illegals on that big list too. If they want pot and illegals, put in the time, the legwork and the fucking money to change the Federal law. Let this new generation of electronic robber barons put their money where their bullshit rhetoric is.

Yep, know all about that. The move of Toyota, Fed EX, Liberty Mutual and JPMorgan Chase have raised my property values almost 20% in a year.

Oregon looks even more appealing now!!!!

It won't be Oregon, it'll be Portland. So you better like Portland.........a lot. A little 'nation state' all on it's own.

Because if Oregon can secede, so too can portions of Oregon. And virtually all of Eastern Oregon is going to do just that. Those Hops farmers aren't going to give up their contracts with Budweiser, nor the potato growers with Oreida.

Then again, maybe Idaho will just annex them.
