I have been hitting my head lately trying to find some decent books to read. I love reading but it's hard to keep my attention, It literally has to be a book that is on the edge of your seat excitement, "whats going to happen next" type of book. I'm mostly into the darker scarier books, in fact I just read Dexter and that was a GREAT READ!! They apparently made a series about it on showtime. Anyway any suggestions would be welcome because I would like to get back into the book reading.

I never pass up an opportunity to sell my books.

Try In The Dark, my anthology of vampire stories. It's good. :)

Yes it is.

The irony is that if the spammer were to ever come back to this thread, he'd find more spam!

Chelsea Quinn Yarlboro is a good author. Also, if you like slightly darker than King, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Robert R McGammon. Swan Song is fantastic, Boy's Life is also good. To be honest I like his books pretty much better than anything.

Harlan Ellison has written some fine things. He's hard to find in print sometimes. Neil Gaiman is one of the better mechanics of the English language working today.
Neither of those guys always go for the dark, scary stuff, but both have their moments.

You haven't read I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream?

That's one of the darkest pieces of literature I've ever read.

When Rabbit Howls. Its the story of Multiple Personality Disorder. Its true so read it with that in mind

Yes, I've read I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. Ellison also does fall-down funny & thoughtful & "holy crap what made him think of that!"
Not a one-trick pony is Harlan.

Oh, it's an anthology? Do you have excerpts from the other stories included? Because I read the sample on that site and I didn't find it worth paying for, but if there's better content, I could be persuaded.

Deathbird Stories...

Mr. Undesirable, my book, is the funniest novel ever written. I might be biased, but I dig it. :)

You didn't like the sample with Georges? Wow.

Don't buy the anthology then, as you won't like it.

But many others certainly do.

Okay -I recently discovered a NEW author that has blown me away -
Her name is Jaquelyne Frank
Her first book is called Jacob
the second is called Gideon
and the one coming is called Elijah

OMFG!!! I am an avid voracious reader of alternate histories, Laurel Hamilton, Sharon Shinn, etc. But she has taken the genre to such a new level I will never be able to read the others with out disparagingly comparing them now.
It feels like every one else has written a college thesis compared to her writing.

Her world is fully realized, detailed, rich and emotive, highly erotic. It grabs the reader and refuses to let go, it ebbs and flows, slows and peaks. It is relentless and gorgeous, subtle and vivid....

I insisted that a couple of my more "serious" friends read them and they to succumbed to the siren call of this story - I WANT TO KNOW MORE! -
Truly - go and get the books... you won't regret it - its erotic fantasy/alternate history/romance/fantasy stories....
