"New evidence shows that the recent eruption of Pavlof Volcano may have been anthropogenic in nature.

After researching the seismic record of the period just prior to the eruption, an anomaly was found in the high-frequency range usually associated with human hearing. This spike in the plot charted by Misha Zazvonny, a researcher at the GI's Alaska Volcano Observatory, was found to coincide with the morning's Easter services at the small village of False Pass just west of the volcano.

The morning service was interrupted this year when a local basketball champ snuck into the steeple and accidentally tripped in the dark tower. He grabbed the only thing he could see to keep from falling the 13 feet to the floor. The bell rope saved him.

"A clear cause and effect is evident," according to Zazvonny. "It seems that for many years the volcano has been thought to behave tamely but randomly. Now it would appear that it's actually trained to erupt at the sound of the church's bell."

A new term was coined for the phenomenon: Western Infra-Metric Pavlovian Eruption Response (WIMPER)."
