Just finished 'binge' watching the entire series so far. I'm hooked now.

The plot and the character, with a few exceptions, ring so true for the region. And then there is the scenery, places that my sons and I have lived and visited.

If you haven't seen it, give it a test drive.

Lou Diamond Phillips, Tom Wopat, Gerald McRaney and A Martinez? Holy shit! Was this made in the late 80's?

Does it air betwix Riptide and Miami Vice?

It's Gunsmokey. I like it.

Dedicated fan base. As long as the writing doesn't take a crap.

Netflix has a great track record with their self-produced shows, and the writing is usually among the best in the business. Comparable to the best network programs. So, I'm hopeful that they can keep it going.

It doesn't completely fill the hole left from Justified ending, but it helps a lot.

Longmire was an A&E show.

WAS being the operative word. They dumped because it wasn't hitting the demographics they wanted. Netflix picked it up, started doing overdubbing in Spanish and the rest is history.

It's not a Netflix original series. There was no drop in quality between season 3 & 4 when Netflix took over. It might be interesting to see what kind of viewer numbers Netflix puts up against various cable networks.

I doubt we'll ever know. It's not like Nielsen can tap in. Obviously Nteflix sees enough numbers to fund another season. No complaint from me, not like "Firefly."

I watched it once in a while when it was on A&E. I liked the sense of place, but it doesn't have much to recommend it otherwise.

Book"S"? Why'd you read more than one?

Ishmael

I've done that. Sometimes, the first book is mildly intriguing but not pleasing and you give the author the benefit of the doubt and think the sequel or next unrelated book will be better for any number of reasons. And you are proven horribly, horribly wrong. (I recently had this experience with Christopher Moore's vampire series. Those just get worse the deeper into the series you get.)

Or, alternatively, you like the first book you read and the others aren't bad per se but are so tonally different they lose you. Thomas Harris and Harper Lee come to mind there.

Or, alternatively, the son of bitch never read a single book at all. Just read the series was based on books on IMDB. All things are possible.

I binge watched it a few months ago, yeah, good series.
I was disappointed when Katee Sackhoff showed up though. I didn't like her in 24 and only like her slightly more in Longmire. She always looks like she just stepped in dogshit or is about to start whining. She's generally not convincing in either role.

But, I'm looking forward to season 5.

Been watching the show since it started. I enjoy the show, wish they did more then 10 shows a year.

They're alright.

Its okay with me if everbody loves it and Johnson makes a fortune but LONGMIRE aint good or great writing. I just bought 4 books by Robert Crais, and I aint a huge Crais fan. But all are good books by my standards, and most Crais books suck. Most great writers crank out 5 books and go to hell.

The kiss of death, for me, are female characters with balls. In real life I've known maybe 2 women with true grit. All women have the backbones of farts.

I think you either are extremely uncharitable towards women or need to associate with more women. Probably both. (I've actually met more women with spines than men. In my experience, most people are disappointing in this regard but men are less honest with themselves and far more vocal than women.)

But I agree with you on the quality of writing, at least as far as the TV adaptation goes. It's basically a Western-themed soap opera set in a modern rural community that takes itself way, way too seriously.

I tried watching it but never got past season 1. The locations and such are very nice but I did not find myself caring one lick about any character.

I'm misogynist and chauvinist. They make babies better than anyone, tho.
