Long time lesbian couples; do you suffer the same “sexless” situation heteros find themselves in?

I’m a male in a heterosexual marriage. I love my wife dearly. She has lost her desire for sex. I still have a strong sex drive but I don’t want to go outside our marriage so I resort to self stimulation. We’re in our 60’s. Other than the absence of sex we truly enjoy each other so sex, or lack thereof, is not an insurmountable issue.

Like many of the guys here, we find ourselves in a sexless marriage. Our wives have lost interest in sex, or have changed physiologically to the same result. Regardless of the cause, which is not the point here, I’m simply more curious to know if the same applies to older lesbian couples? I suspect the same applies, but would like to hear if my assumption is correct.

Thank you for your responses.
Love each other!

I'm part of the queer / LGBTQ+ community. Gay / lesbian / trans / queer ... we're just like the straight community. Some lose interest in sex in their 40's, some are still wrecking the sheets in their 80's.

Based on what I see and what friends tell me, people either lose interest because of certain physical health issues, or lose interest because of emotional / relationship aspects.

I know one cis-het woman, mid-50's, seemed to lose all interest / desire / energy for many things, not just sex. She had her hormones tested, and it turned out she had almost no E, P, or T. The doc had a compounding pharmacy whip up some stuff, and within weeks she was feeling perkier, and within a couple of months she was back to feeling like a 30-ish woman.

That's interesting. At the risk of sounding uninformed, what is E, P, T? I'm pretty sure I know Estrogen and Progesterone, but what about T? Testosterone?

I was thinking of having my wife look into the female equivalent of Viagra, which I searched out to find it is Addyi, but the results along with side effects don't look as appealing as the marketing make it out to be. Your acquaintances' results sound like a better route to go. Thanks.

Yes, Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone. All healthy folks have both E and T as they are needed for healthy bones and energy.

For me, it's my E2 level that seems to regulate my interest in sex. High E2 = high sex drive.

And before you ask, Total E = E1 + E2 + E3.
