If one does a long story series, must we:
1: Each new edition, make a different story under the same name and add part (what ever the part number it is) ?

2: Every new edition, we edit the original story.

Sometimes I know there will be more parts to write, in which case I'll be able to call it "Bellway Ch. 01: Thieves in the Woods" when publishing that first part.

Rather than try to edit Chapter 1 when you decide to publish your Chapter 2, it's worth adding a note to the editor asking her to re-title Chapter 1.

Not sure I understand the question, but if it is,
How to make stories to stick in series?

The (1) is the more correct answer.

You post new story for each part. I haven't (yet) gone through the process myself, so probably someone with first hand knowledge may confirm or correct, but in my understanding you either

-- post stories with the exact same title, and the site will add incremental "Ch. XX" suffix for each after first, so you post "My long story" then you post a new story and name it "My long story" again, and it automatically becomes "My long story Ch. 02" note that the first part stay un-numbered.

-- post stories with an incremental numerical part in the title
Super long epic Pt 0001
Super long epic Pt 0002

Allegedly you may even add a subtitle after the number (but I'm not entirely sure about this)

My trilogy book 1 - beginning
My trilogy book 2 - middle
My trilogy book 3 - the end

You have to very careful that the part of title before the number is exactly identical for the automatical process to work as intended. I would also hazard a guess that only the first string of digits encountered will work, but that's guess.

When I see a long series my thought is usually, how do you keep it from being repetitive? If it's 2-4 characters and 10 stories, I have trouble finding enough situations that those few characters could find themselves that wouldn't just be retelling what they've been doing. If the parts are all very short then just save them and continue until there's continuous story to follow in one place

I've noticed that for long series, the views go down as you get into the later chapters, but the scores go up. I assume that's because nobody is going to read a Part 8 unless they've already read the first seven parts, and liked them. So, in order to avoid this tendency, I try to use different titles for each chapter, but similar enough that they alphabetize together and in the right order.

For example: Mike and Molly at the Beach; Mike and Molly Buy a Car; Mike and Molly Call for Help. If someone is looking at my list of stories, they obviously form a series. But if someone sees one of them on the New Stories list, or in a search result, they look stand-alone.
