I have noticed that the number of folks saying, they can't talk to friends as often as they would like appears to be on the increase.

Please don't get me wrong, I do understand the costs involved with long-distance phone calls, can be horrendous.

However in this ever changing world of the WWW, a number of the IM (Instant Messenger) services, have started giving access to the phone networks, allowing you/me/us to call for only the cost of your local connection.

Most of the current IM services work only to or within the US and Canada, rather than world wide but there are certain programs available that can connect you world wide instead.

I talk to Becca even on her cell phone, and you can connect to pager services as well. Though for pagers you do have to have a "code" worked out before hand.

Both MSN and Yahoo IM's say they will have world wide service, within a short amount of time by maybe the end of 2001.

So come on in and tell me if you use your IM service this way, or if you would rather not be able to do this at all?

We have used the talk feature on Yahoo but I much prefer the sound of his voice in my ear while I snuggle up under the covers.

There is also the need for discretion on both ends so turning the sound up on the speakers in the middle of the living room is not an option neither is muffling what is being said into the microphone.

Yup I understand...

But I was trying to speak about the phone option or call option rather than the voice chat.

I agree that it is much better to snuggle and talk, than to sit in the middle of a cyber cafe and shout.

So I would get a headset with microphone, and move a computer into the bedroom, or just ask if he could call your home phone that is already in the bedroom, (Just a thought Juliangel).

LOL Celestial Body if you try the MSN you may find it better I prefer it to the one with Yahoo, though I prefer Yahoo voice to MSN. Either that or type faster, LOL.

Has anyone tried dial pad? I've used it a couple of times just goofing off with my best friend (who lives like 4 miles from me lol)

I use 10 10 811. It is 5 cents a minute and there is no monthly charge for the service. It comes out to $3.00 an hour but I still have to be careful about the phone bill coming.

For me the cost of the call is not the problem it is the fact that the call shows up on the phone bill since it is long distance.

I can never keep up with calling cards so I do not even try.
