I was creating an ad for a friend in one of the local magazines "Excitement" and I thought it would be a cool idea to create one myself with limited circulation. So....I opened up PageMaker and dropped a few of my stories and artwork in it. The first thing that came to mind was advertising. If I could get enought advertising to cover the printing cost, that would be great. I have no interest in tossing money out the window for curiousity.

Has anyone made simular ventures?

no but, ordering another pint at the bar, let me tell you what I'd do...

Get a basic draft of your magazine.

Call up likely advertisers and hustle them like crazy - pretend you already have others on board etc

Print a circulation that doesn't exceed your income from advertisers too much...then take it form there

Oh yeah, plug it loads too...

I had a copy printed using some pics I had as dummy ads and some artwork, so I could see how it would be in my hand. Cool...stuff. I'm really curious about putting it out there. I guess I'm interested in seeing someone actually reading it.

I have heard of a mag excitement here, but its a weekly, news format - local scene. What's the target? What's the mag?

You are welcome to PM me - I have a background in PR, advertising, photography. But need more details. If you are not going to hit your target or get the most for your buck, then no matter how cool your creation, it will miss the market, and not be of any benefit :)

Just a variety of smut stories. Here is the cover:

O' the name is "Barn Burner"

Kind of thought that might be the target, Black S, and uh - huh - have experience in marketing to this, especially, too :D A woman of many talents. Let me know whether it is about you or other . . . I know the scene well :)

Excitement along with Nightmoves are mainly an advertisement for adult night club, book stores, escorts services and the like. They are found in adult book stores and adult night clubs. They are monthly publications, but the only things that are the least bit interesting are the ads. Every now an then there are interviews with featured dancers and porn stars that live in the area. Not something that I would put beside my porn mags. There is nothing in them that would make me hold on to it.

The market is men between 25 and 60 that frequent the "Flashers" adult night club. When I lived in an apartment, I lived above a little old lady who's son is a bouncer at the club. He told me that it would be cool to put it at the door. I'm not trying to make money with this. I would like to see who would pick it up.

I can't read the bi-line tag, so don't know what you are trying to do with the ad. Are you a dancer? Or an Agent? Or a pimp? Are you doing a revue? OR are you wanting to ad your stories for purchase? To write custom? What is the purpose of the ad? Just to - just to because it gives you a kick but are delivering nothing? Are you a porn star? What have you done? You want to PR yourself? Have a story written? Promote? OR AD some kind of service?

REALLY - if you want some pro-bono advice - cuz I AM NOT cheap . . . I'm amazing at what I do . . . come fetch me. I understand the mag - still trying to figure out what you are advertising - cuz the ad - and I can't read the bi-line says . . . nothing to me other than maybe Escort, and not even . . .

???

I guess this would be my attempt at self-publishing. Has anyone published their own works?

I toyed with the idea of making a magazine called "PLAYGIRL of Sweden", but the idea fell apart since I couldn't come up with the money.:(

Just call it 'PLAY' you'll bypass the copyrights and be able to post an all gorgeous SVENSKA - hmm - second thought - just call is SVENSKA!

I'm going to do a short run of 1000 which is only going to cost me about $300 folded and stapled at digest size. I'm to busy to husle for advertisers, besides it's just for kicks and giggles anyways.

I got the domain name of barnburnermag.com just in case I end up liking it.

Make one for yourself....Kinko's only charges $2.11 to do a 32 page digest stapled on recycled paper in black.

Here is a screen shot of the pdf showing the TOC and the last page before the inside back cover. It's camera ready, so page 3 is on the same page as page 30

Here is the centerfold artwork. This will be a free magazine distributed in Adult nightclubs and adult book stores locally.
