Lingerie Store Window Has Live Models

AUGUSTA, Maine - In this town, window shopping is attracting a lot more guys than usual. A lingerie store called Spellbound is grabbing attention with live models in the window. Some people have complained, but police say there is nothing illegal about the lingerie models.

"It's tainting the wholesome businesses down here," said Carrie Rossignol, co-owner of Video Game Exchange. "I think it's selfish, and I think it's morally reprehensible."

Another downtown merchant likes the idea, saying the models are attracting more potential customers to the area.

"It's like a New York thing. It's urban. It's edgy," said Stacy Gervais, owner of Stacy's Hallmark Store and a founder of a downtown merchants group. "We need a shtick — something that we do that attracts people and gets us remembered."

Spellbound owner Felicia Stockford said she has had no trouble finding staffers. She said the young women enjoy strutting their stuff in the shop window.

I, for one, was unaware that it had been done before. My main question, upon reading the article, was if it was a short term gimmick or a longer term strategy. From what you say it apparently works as a longer term strategy.

The biggest eye-opener for me in that article was that the girls do it with only lingerie as compensation! True, lacey undergarments are pricey, and once they are worn, reselling them is sort of eeuuwwww, but do 18-19 year olds really need such an extensive lingerie wardrobe?

I don't have any interest at all in purchasing used panties/lingerie. Now, a private showing by a lingerie model in a suitable venue, OH YEAH!

By the way, a particularly suitable venue is my bedroom. It just has a certain ambiance!

Personally, I'd avoid the place like the plague. That's the last thing I need when I'm going lingerie shopping. I need women inside, helping me find sizes - why is there never enough help when you're stripped in the dressing room and none of the sizes are right???

Spellbound's owner, former Cony High School teacher Felicia Stockford, said she came up with the idea while brainstorming for an inexpensive marketing idea. "I thought, 'You know, that's a big window, and if I put girls in there to wave at traffic, it would draw a lot of attention.'"

Paid only in lingerie, the women said they volunteer because they love being seen.

"I enjoy it," said Tara Manns, 20. "I enjoy the looks I get."

"It's good to get attention once and a while," said Amanda Richards, 21.

Accompanied by Jesyka Clark, 18, Manns and Richards stood, kneeled or reclined in the window Friday, flirtatiously cooing and waving at drivers stopped at a red light.

"They're exhibitionists," said Stockford, noting that's she's had no trouble finding models for the window.

Stockford said the models do not show private parts that would break the law and she forbids the women from striking overly suggestive poses.

So a highschool teacher-cum-lingerie store owner (that's already so good that if you were to write it in a story it would get blasted) hires young girls to model lingerie in her store window (another thing you couldn't write if you tried), and pays them in panties. My heart is racing...I'm panting like a wet dog...christmas shopping could be so much more enjoyable!

Although I guess Abercrombie & Fitch kind of did the same thing with their "in-store" models a while back. Like two years? Not really sure.

I stand corrected. I hadn't read the MSNBC version.

BTW, before the Feds closed it for income tax evasion, the Mustang Ranch in Reno was owned/operated by a former high school principal. Being a brothel, they did a lot more than model lingerie!
