if you were going to be traveling (let's assume for business) and therefore had the opportunity to meet litsters, would you announce it to all and sundry in a thread, or would you send PMs to very specific litsters in the respective areas?

If this is a world tour, do I get groupies and lots of casual sex? ;)

*I hope, I hope...*

The PM route makes much more sense to me....especially since it has worked well in the past. :)

I'd PM the ones I wanted to meet, maybe asking them if they know of anyone else in the area.

There's an open invitation for any HTers coming to the Seattle area, Ed. :D

erika: thank you, and the reverse is also true if you ever get out east. :>

Have I ever told you where my MIL lives? You are one of the very few people for whom I'd break my ban on air travel.

I'd PM my friends about my plans and ask if they'd like to meet. I have enjoyed meeting Litsters very much. There are several more I'd like to meet if possible and if they'd like to meet.

I think the PM route is certainly the way to go here. At least initially. For myself, I think it is a simple matter of respect for privacy and discretion. Particularly here on Lit where drama is the main course and if drama is not readily visible, it is created. There was a clear example of this even recently...

Having said that, I am proud of the friends I have met online and the few I have met in person. I would gladly admit to having met any of them. But I think this is something very personal and should be agreed to by both parties before making any such disclosure publicly. Again, out of respect for the privacy of those we meet.

Some may be proud or comfortable privately, but would rather not draw such attention to themselves publicly.

As for traveling in general, I will often PM Litsters I know that live in the area (even some in this thread ;) ). More often than not, this is as innocent as asking about nice restaurants and such as it is looking for a discreet meeting. MWY even created a thread recently looking for fine eateries around the country on a whirlwind trip he had. This had proven to be an excellent way to find some great places to eat and relax.

I'd go the PM route too.
I would have also picked the last two options, although there are people here: that having the chance to meet, would make me override a lot of my fears.

Whaddya mean, why would anybody want to meet you, pq? It's the distance thing, y'know. Otherwise, I'd be making a pest of myself.

Oooh *warm fuzzy feeling*, like I said I would override my fears to meet some from here. :rose:

Now can you edit my quote and put the extra r in override.

Yes, about 25 mins from me, where Hubby and I grew up. You're too kind :rose: ...we can send B to her house, and you can retreat to ours! :D

We have plans for Costa Rica in Feb/March, but may see Grandma in Maine next fall. If that's the case, Cate can count on a visit.

I'd definitely go the PM route, too.... how about I wave out the window of the plane as I fly over everyone's place next month?? Will that work?

Just tell me when you'll be overhead and I'll be out in my front yard waving a big red flag! :nana:

Yay!

Hey, if you go see Cate, maybe I can accidently find myself there too! It'd be three against one. Think your Hubby can handle three giggling women?

I'd have to agree with most of the others here. PM is the best route to go. I've met about 10 or so people from lit, most in my state, but a few from other states. And every meeting has gone well and I've made some very good and dear friends. Even dated one of them for quite awhile. But for the most part, I think people still like the anonymity that the internet can give them, so the privacy of a PM is much better than the blanket post, IMHO.

PM's, of course... e-mail maybe (to ones I have e-mail contact with). Would be huge fun! Only thing is: you're all so far away  (well, most of you are) ....

But there's definately some people from here I would  to meet!

Perhaps you could plan a Queen's Day Litogether for Spring 07???

The Netherlands/Holland is a fantastic place! Of all the places I have traveled around the world, Holland is my favorite. I look forward to every trip there and the Dutch people have to be the friendliest people in the world. Spent most of my time in Amsterdam and The Hague/Den Haag. The architecture and art museums are unbelievable!

Maybe I should work for their tourism bureau???

Well, maybe... you're doing fine so far :D

A Queen's Day Lit together.... hmmmm interesting idea... ;) Who knows. Do come over to Dutch Lit (Cafe is a good place to start) and talk to people there. We will 'speak' English.

So, you have plans for Queen's Day and coming to our little country?

I have trips to Holland maybe ever year or two. Been going off and on for 15 now. And I have had a chance to spend some time there, usually a week at a time and the last trip was 2 full weeks including Queen's Day. I tell people, it's like Mardi Gras without all the ugliness and violence. Just millions of beautiful people pouring into the streets for 2 days. Was one of the most amazing spectacles I have ever been a part of. And would actually consider booking a vacation for just that week. I will try to dig up some pics I took last spring and post them.

The people are amazing. So fun and full of life, friendly to everyone. The morning bike commute is a spectacle all in itself like nothing I have seen anywhere else.

I also love the way the Dutch people speak. A unique sound all it's own. I can understand a little, speak enough broken German that they generally understand that I am at least trying (LOL) and yes, everyone speaks English.

Thanks for the invite. Took a look at the thread already. See most is NOT written in English, but I might do a little snooping around.

Mardi Gras? Well, I don't know, have never been there. So I don't know about the violence and such, but I can assure you there is some of that here too. We're no Saints, you know.... But usually the shit happens when people start getting drunk (we're not uniquely different in that). For the most part I agree though, and especially when the weather is nice (now, that's not guaranteed in NL as you might have noticed!) it's just one huge party outside!

If you know where to go there's lots to see and do and it's great fun. One thing.... you have to have some agree of fondness of the colour orange :p :D

Oh yes, and do come over and have a drink in the Dutch Lit Cafe sometime soon!

Erika, if you come within three states I'll do whatever necessary to meet you. If bg is here you might want to make it a stay over or twelve. I would love to hug you in person, you're a love.
