When someone's viewing a poem on which s/he has already voted then the software should disable the voting option. That's how such things are done. Then the whole issue of multiple votes disappears, is nonexistent. The way it's now on Literotica is irrational.

The act of voting on the matter of individual works of poetry, even poetry devoted to the erotic rather than the sublime is hardly a rational act, so maybe the system is perfect in its irrationality.

Hey....DM.....It's your turn to buy the whiskey.... :D

Surely you are mistaken. Is that a nice bottle of Laphroaig I see behind you? Make mine a double.

Voting, voting, voting. What to do?! Is this person that I'm about to give a 5 to a troll and should I really be trolling them back in return? If I troll them and I'm wrong then I've done an awful thing and I deserve to be trolled in turn. But what if the bastard really is a troll after all? Maybe I should settle for a halfway house compromise and give them a 3. I could feel better about that because no poem is perfect. But a three could lose them a H and this person has always been kind to me but maybe they are just playing at being kind, hoping I give them a 5 while they slip me a 1? Hmm Unlike me people tend to be petty and mean and I've got no proof this person isn't the same as all the rest.

Perhaps I should read the poem first, give them a nice comment and then slip them a 1. If I used my brains in the first place I wouldn't have had all that voting angst.

Who was it that said voting was irrational?

it's funny how other Litland pages still open up even if one chooses not to vote.

oh wait, yes, it still is a choice.

Senna Jawa, i understand your point. i read and re-read poetry and stories. unfortunately i have memory difficulties and often have no idea if i've voted on something previously. so mostly these days, i don't vote on anything i read because i'd hate to send a poet or author into a state of anguish when one of my double-up votes was deleted.

surely it would not be difficult to add in a 'You have already voted on this Poem' line into the software program...? time consuming, yes, but difficult? i don't think so.

Manu are you lurking?

It may be good idea to do a DNA test, I've often wondered about some of those "H"'s ,

...of far be it from me...

we could always use the feedback portal to note for ourselves that we have pumped numbers into the equation. Your rating vote could be anonymous and the public feedback thermometer could simply stay on default and paste a little comment, such as,

I voted on this poem on the previous screen hence the thermometer is left at default. Dear Poet, please leave this comment here so that I can ensure I don't submit a vote again. Thankyou...

Care for Lagavulin, instead?

I don't know that we have been properly introduced but "Lagavulin" is such a lovely word. Rolls over the tongue with just a taste of glottal on the g and a sigh at the the end.

Welcome to this charming little corner of the poetic/erotic universe and yes I'll gladly accept a wee tipple.

Thank you for the welcome :)

Lagavulin is a wonderful Islay single malt scotch. Perfect amount of peat/smoke, I think. I prefer it to Bowmore and Laphroig both, though Bowmore is my 'everyday' brand. Not that I drink it every day, mind you. I also have a thing for cognacs, so come on over and I'll pour you a snifter of XO. No cigars though. You'll have to bring your own if you want one :)

As far as the voting thing goes, I've noticed that some of my stories drop votes but go up in ranking. Is this because someone votes twice and they cancel each other out or what?
