Literotica's BDSM Cafe IRC Chatroom #lithouse

Yes, IRC has been around for a long time, perhaps a stone-age relic of the Internet. However, it is still a useful tool to use in terms of chatting. Right now, Literotica's official chatroom is so full it involves great strain to get on it. Thus we are opening a new chat room for those who are inclined to chat.

Right now, this chatroom is not official but that doesn't matter does it? It's registered so it is staying on the server. No, there is no java client to use here.... yet.

Anyways, instructions to getting the thing working. There are two options, Trillian and mIRC. If you know of any other clients that I have not listed, feel free to tell me.

Trillian: www.ceruleanstudios.com/

A nifty program which can also stuff in your AIM, MSN, ICQ and Yahoo IM tools. Decent program.

mIRC: www.mirc.com/

A simpler program just devoted to IRC. Use the demo and exploit it too.

Once installed, connect to an IRC server, more specifically irc.bdsm-net.com because that one will have the chatroom. The Port will always be 6667. Make a username and nickname and connect. Press the IRC button to pop up the menu and press Join channel (I know this works in Trillian) and type in #lithouse and hit enter. Give it a second to find the channel and voila.

Now, I don't know mIRC very well, if not none at all. So someone is going to have to write that up for me.

Basic rules of IRC: http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/ircprimer.html

Basic information for those who know:

Software: IRC Client - Use Trillian or mIRC.
Join Server: irc.bdsm-net.com
Port: 6667
Channel: #lithouse

mIRC is simple to use, It should prompt you for a name right away, once you supply one then just x out of the popup and type:
/server irc.bdsm-net.com
in the bottom bar, it should show some text, namely the network's greeting, it's probably a good idea to read them, then another window asking you what channel you wish to use, put the channel name #lithouse in there, and then join.

I've been an IRCop for years and years, so if anyone has questions on mIRC, I can likely answer it, although I use an ancient old version that I stubbornly won't give up, so I'm not sure what has changed feature-wise in newer versions, butttt...what does stay the same is commands. Forget all the boxes and buttons, typing the commands is a heck of a lot easier. ALL commands start with a / before the command, if you do not put the / in, it will not be recognized as a command.

To join the server, open mIRC and type in the status window /server irc.bdsm-net.com

To change your nickname, type in any window /nick yournickname (ex: /nick serijules)

To join a channel, type in any window /join #channelname (ex: /join #lithouse)

To private message another person, type in any window /query nickname (ex: /query serijules hi, how are you) This form will open a separate message window.

To private message someone without opening another window, type /msg nickname whatever you want to say (ex: /msg serijules do you want to chat?)

To leave a channel, type /part #channel name (ex: /part #lithouse)

To exit the server, type /exit (this will also shut down mIRC)

To see information about another user, type /whois nickname (ex: /whois serijules)

To add a user to your notify list (will notify you when that person is online) type /notify nickname (ex: /notify serijules)

That about covers the basics, hope that helps those of you unfamiliar with mIRC

Oh, another nifty hint...when typing people's nicknames...type the first few letters of their name and hit tab. It will fill in the rest of the nickname for you. If there is more than one person in the channel with the same first few letters, you can either type more of the letters, or hit tab again until it finds the one you want (ex: se TAB)

Saves on typing some of the longer or more aggravating nicknames...especially when people use annoying characters in their names that you are not used to typing.

An IRCop, do any of you IRCops know each other?

Err...there are thousands of IRCops over thousands of networks, so I kind of doubt it?

My point was I have much experience dealing with newbies with stupid questions so bring it on. *grin*

hehehe, well, wasn't that a stupid question? a warmup question :p
I was just asking because I know an IRCop that I hate because he totally abuses his power and attacks me all the time, he's on my favorite network too!
lol, anyway....

I've been an op for another channel, however I haven't started one on my own. So this is a first. Anyways, looks like we got 3 people on it including myself. So this, I guess is an ok start.

Try now, I'm in it. Usually on between 13:00 - 3:00 MST (20:00 - 10:00 GMT)

Hmmm. I'm having too many bizarre issues every time I start the mIRC tonight. I'll have to wait til I'm more awake and feel like arguing with the software.

I was just wondering if there was an IRC room.

Sexcellent. I shall remain there.

Very good "IRC for Beginners" info. here guys. :) It sounds easy enough that I might even try it.

Actually, I've used IRC before, but it was long enough ago that I've forgetten everything about it.

Give it a whirl. I try to be on 12 hours a day, if not more. There is a couple parked there so the chatroom is budding, I hope.

Well, I'll try to be on as much as possible but my computer makes up a fair bit of the electricity bill - 300~400 kW*h/month so I can't leave it on all day as it would most likely double the value. Anyways, try being on later in the evening or early in the morning when we are more likely on.

I am having a little problem signing on with trillian... I know it is just me but I can't seem to get the information in the right fields.

yeah Im having issues with Trillian also....but then again I just now got it and having never used it before, it could just be operator error on my end :p
I dl the mIRC and think I got it figured out lol
Im in there now :p

hrm... I dunno. I'm not an IRC whiz so... but I'm on right now.
