I worked out the only chance I had to win was to lockout all the months for Erotic Horror. I got 9 of them, but was a couple of days too late in submitting a story in August, which let slyc willie in (with a damn fine story as well). I kind of knew I was busted then, but spending a couple of extra days ended up being worth it as the story got 2nd in the summer contest

Whoever wrote the best story, of course

I filled in a few that I knew weren't going to get topped by anything in my mind, and did a little reading on others to finalize my original opinion in a category, but there are a lot left. I probably won't make it through the whole list. Too many other things on me plate.

Are Contest stories excluded from the year end prizes? I was just curious. I though my Accidental Nudist Cabin would be a shoe-in for the top 5, it's the highest rated 'loving wives' story of '09. And spent several months at #1 overall.

I was pleased and surprised to see that the Perfect Game 3 was in the running. I was more surprised to see I won a monthly category award and didn't know it. Doh! Left that money on the table :caning:

Never mind. I think I figured it out.

Perfect Game 3 and Accidental Nudist Cabin came out the same month. Only 1 winner per month. That's all I can figure.

And probably the one that already had won something took a back seat.

The category awards aren't money prizes. They're more along the lines of nominations that are winnowed down into the finalists for the year end.

Contest winners are eligible for the year end awards. I've seen them pop up as the monthly cagetory nominees several times. My Earth Day 3rd place is my finalist in Sci-Fi & Fantasy.

Wow, I was having such a drab day today and was a bit bummed. I just happened upon the Awards page this afternoon and what a delightful complete shock!

I've never been nominated for anything in my life and I know my stories sometimes run a bit controversial; so it was a very lovely surprise.
