I'm still thinking about entering, to see if it would be motivation for me to write more. I can't say if I actually will or not - if anyone has opinions on if I should, I'd be happy to hear them.

Anyway, I was thinking that there could be a story ideas thread for those who are trying to cross over into a new genre because of the Survivor contest, and are in need of some help.

(I'm not sure if this will work out or not, but, perhaps it could be helpful.)

Hi. I'm trying the contest this year. It's a little depressing to see someone already has 60-something points when I'm in the 20s though. lol But, I'm gonna give it a try none the less!

This is a good idea for a thread! I'm gonna try to write for pretty much all of the categories Lit has to offer. I've used one won Immunity for "Non Erotic", though, cause it sounded boring to me. lol

So, who else is in the contest?

I think that it is better motivation to make yourself participate in all of the real contests. Valentines, Earth Day, Freedom of Speech (if they do that annually I don't know), Halloween, Winter Holidays. The survivor contest gets kinda depressing around June July when you realize somebody already has more stories in than you intend to write in the entire year. I swear some of those guys either A write for a year and then enter the contest, or B are actually a group of individuals. I mean the sheer volume they can put out is rediculous.

Wrong on both accounts, lol (for me at least.) Everything I had posted in the 2005 contest (as Vix) was written in 2005 (with the exception of maybe 2 chapters of the novels and novellas story which was written during Nano 2004). I wrote it all by myself. It's called extreme dedication, writing any time I had a chance, and losing many hours of sleep.

And yes, I'm in again this year, though I doubt I'll acheive the same volume as before. My muse is being bitchy about the work out I put her through and is refusing to cooperate at the moment.

Nice Avatar. How much did you get for winning and what place did you get?

I hope I didn't offend you, you guys were pretty overwhelming. I probably would have written more (though not as much as you did) if I hadn't realized it wasn't going to do me any good because there was no way in hell I was going to catch up to you. Its like getting in a fight with God.

I'm in Survivor again this year. I'd suggest playing to place, not trying to win. Unless you have a lot of free time on your hands, someone is going to outpace you.

I only have 6 points, so be happy where you're at! :)

(I need to spend more time writing and less time playing online poker while watching TV)

I'm in this year... I'm a competitive kitty, and I noticed that entering the holiday contests was motivating, so I thought, why not? :)

My goal, honestly, is a story in every category... and to write stuff that isn't your typical mainstream Lit fare :x that part I'm already getting slammed for <shrug>

My muse has been white hot lately, and I've been under her lash... my editor says I'm going to burn out if I don't slow down... prolly true... I probably won't write anything after March... lol

so what categories are you worried about, bi?

Thanks for the compliment on the AV. I managed second place last year. The prize for 2nd is $250. First place was unattainable. Velvetpie had almost 150 points more than I did, and I struggled mightily to get to where I ended up.
