Literotica readers are different - unfortunately

I post stories on a select few sites and sell a large number of books to a loyal fan base but the ugliest and most vitriolic feedback is always from literotica readers. I have never received the moronic and simply nasty comments that I receive here from readers from any other site.

Why is that?

I’m not talking about criticism – god knows I can handle that - but to open a feedback email that is simply someone spewing incoherent filth is astounding.

To receive one, in this world of ours, is to be expected, but to receive almost twenty from one story?

This does not occur on any other site that I post on - well, not to me, anyway.

On the positive side to be called a UK Whore is almost appealing.

Welcome to the AH. Which category was your 20-vitriolic-feedbacks-story in? I'm going to make a pre-emptive guess at Loving Wives, in which case, we've diagnosed your problem.

Lit has a large readership. Sadly that means it has a large number of crazy people as well. C'est la vie.

If it's loving wives, then the vitriol comes from three or four competeing camps who have a different idea of what the category should contain. If it's Gay male or interracial I canonly say we have more than a fair sized crop of people who have nothing to say but love to hear themselves talk.

Agree with The Earl and my personal theory is that other authors (not necessarily here in AH) but other wannabe authors that are not talented are jealous and trying to bring you down. I have experienced that. This is the way of trolling, since most for 'real' anons say how great a story is, or how bad and only cowards say its shit without a possibility for response. Delete and move on, Carminica.

We have so many great people here too, we just learn to ignore the rest.

But we're not hearteless. We give comfort to each other when that sort of thing happens, although usually 'comfort' means we mercilessly make fun of the fools who send up their hate.

Here's one I got on my novel. It's not the worst ever, but it really makes me want to scream, "It's a story for pete's sake! Why are you even reading porn!"

At least you show what can happen when life has no discipline - no convention. But now there will be a conveluted child. Pithy ain't it!

BDSM is a fussy category too. If you put any fetish in there beyond B D S or M, someone will usually object. 9 times out of 10 someone will scream at you that if you think that's what the 'lifestyle' is all about, you're seriously fucked up Then someone else will complain that your story isn't hard core enough. Or that it doesn't belong in that category for any number of stupid reasons, like that it doesn't include every element of BDSM- like maybe it's just spanking or something. BDSM crowd I think is hard to please. So much, in my opinion, can go in there besides 'bdsm lifestyle' or 'bdsm roll/scene play' but some people seem to loose site of that.

I love BDSM, and i know that there's a lot of variety. I'd love to read your story/stories [promise, i won't send hate male]

I gave up writing BDSM long before I came to Lit. I couldn't take the warring "lifestyle" factions any more, every one of them so positive that there is one and only one correct way in which to be kinky. Is it something about the category that draws those folks? I think I've found my niche in "Non-Human"; we don't even mind what species the protagonist is. Nice folks over there in NH.

I think there is. Though I would be hardpressed to explain it Something about the power dynamic or something, I guess. It tends to attract a certain odd type of elitism. Even other BDSM-ers sometimes complian about 'subbier than though' and 'domier than though' attitudes that crop up.

I know what my feedback means. The story was about a young woman who is, depending on your point of view, either freespirited or promiscuous. Anyway, so she ends up pregnent and decides to raise the baby with her gay lover, and not give up her open lifesyle.

I can see why people would object, but why read a whole novel [this comment was on the 3rd to last chapter] if you disaprove of the behavior? Why talk about it as if there were some real baby involved. And why, if you think we need 'traditional boundaries' are you even reading porn? It just goes to show that porn readers can be just as sexually judgemental as anyone- and yet they continue to read on the subject of things which they claim to dissaprove.

I have a guess.

Here it goes:

Story codes. Those "FMF/m bd mc inc nc" kinda thingys that many venues of erotic stories have. Lit doesn't use them. And kinks are sometimes quite damn specific. So it's much easier here to stumble upon a theme that turns you off. Sometimes half way through the story.

Just think about it there you are, readinga well written story, getting a good (ahem) feeling going. Everything seems to go the way you want... then bam, character A takes a dump in character B's face. Not exactly my idea of a good time.

It doesn't excuse the dismayed reader to behave like a fifth grader, but it might explain why so many do.

I'm guilty of purchasing one or three of your titles. Glad to see you here. I think of Lit as bootcamp for beginners. I understand why you are here...just look at the numbers. Lit has some loyalists. I'm sure you'll pick up more than a few new fans.

I removed a shit load of my stories and have started again. I removed some because I published a few novellas and an anthology, others I removed because I got tired of being 1 bombed everytime my story rating got above the "H" point.

Seriously, it the simple website design, and it's free. I don't know how many people that I've turned on to this site who just lurk.

Hell, you can even hit this site from work and not get caught by hidden crap that other sites dump on your machine. Look, I'm on a pron site and I have the ability to avoid pictures from being downloaded to my temporary Internet Files.

Lit respects their visitors, by not causing them heart ache when they are on. Many here have small children that use their computers.

How many other site allow their users to safely act like a jackass? Hell, I got pics of me fucking so many different women, that I can't even count; or at least I had .

Lit is just much easier and friendlier site than the others.

I don't need porn popping up in my face. There is a forum for that if I want to see. The interaction with others is awesome. I even met people who live near me. Life has gotten bigger for me since I've been here. Other sites don't have that, and there is always someone here.
