Hi there.

My name is Douglas and I’m new here. At least this account is new. I’ve been reading and lurking for well over a decade, and I’ve always wanted to submit something of my own but have never had the will to follow through until recently.

I’m crafting a long story with multiple chapters. In my head, I know how long I want them to be in terms of “Literotica pages,” but I don’t know how to translate that into Word pages or word count, which is making them a little difficult to craft.

I’m sure this answer is somewhere right under my nose, but finding it has eluded me. Can someone please tell me about how many words are contained on one page of Literotica text?

Many thanks!

Over more than 1,400 stories posted at Literotica in various accounts, I've found 3,750 words per Literotica page to be consistently applicable.

The way to find out is to get a 3 page story, then copy/paste the 1st page onto your Doc. Then run a word count.

Do the same with the 2nd page. I think Lit page 1 and page 2 are different lengths, could be wrong.

1 page is roughly over 3,500 words.

But I think there may be other factors, such as how much spacing you use. Like if the story has a ton of short dialogue the page gets stretched more and the word count may vary. It's best to do this with more stories to test these theories.

You can reckon on 3700 words per Lit page.
Story length is a different problem. Personally, I think that about 12,000 words is OK for a story or chapter, but there are several which are much longer.
I use Word, and our pages are A4 size. That's about 500 words.

Good Luck

I use 3750 words per page as my guidance, based on a million plus words over 100 plus stories. It's a fairly repeatable rule of thumb.

And 3750 words translates to about 10 - 11 word pages of 8 1/2 by 11 inches with 1" margins.

It varies slightly if you use more breaks for conversations but the figures given above usually apply.

I had one story that only had a sentence on the final page. I had to remove 500 words to get the page break to change.

I found the page length to be a little variable in terms of word count and asked among the web programmers here if anyone could read the style sheets to figure out what standard the site used for a page break. Lupus Dei said he saw something about 20,000 characters.

There are different ways to apply the standard, but I experimented with it and found I could predict page breaks pretty accurately at the last paragraph break before 20,000 characters. In a five-page story I can usually predict the page breaks exactly, and when I'm off it's only by one paragraph.

My 54 stories boil down to the following averages:

LIT PAGES / (STORIES) / WORD PAGES (ave) / WORDS (ave)
2 (2) 11.3 6.7k
3 (10) 16.4 9.6k
4 (13) 24.0 14k
5 (7) 29.0 16.9k
6 (5) 34.1 20k
7 (7) 44.4 25.2k
8 (8) 51.0 29.1k
9 (2) 54.4 32.8k

Trying to get into a precise minutia figure for this is just trying to avoid actually writing. Yes, white space built in and the average characters in words you use in your own vocabulary will affect the number of words you will get to a Lit. page, but if you just go with 3,750 words/Lit. page as a ballpark figure you won't be wasting a whole lot of time you could be writing. Writing fiction is an art, not a science.

I usually try to stay around 8000 words per "chapter" and that comes to around 3 pages I think.

I went and crunched the numbers and counted by hand the number of lines.
One Literotica line is 100 characters
A page is 432 lines. Making for a maximum total of 43200 characters per page. This number includes spaces and assumes that every line is filled from edge to edge.

For me that seems to be about 3500 to 3700 words per page but I can easily see a less dialoge heavy writer reaching a solid 3,800 without breaking a page.

I think the minimum is about 1000 words. My first was returned with a note for being too short. I tried to find the rejection note after but couldn’t so i am not sure about that.

A page for Literotica is just over 3,500 words.

The minimum for Literotica is 750 words.

DO NOT feel pressured by any author or the trolls to make a multiple page story, if you don't feel the need.

You're the author, it's your story.
