A recent thread where Hollywierd was discussed, especially with regards to originality got me to thinking that there are a few movies or shows out on TV that actually show some originality, that are not formulaic. I want to nominate a few. These are not mainstream shows or movies, but I was impressed with how they handled the subject matter, and the fact that they didn't follow typical Hollywood formula.
"Witness Protection" with Tom Sizemore, Forrest Whitaker, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. A great movie about the what it probably is truly like to enter into the Witness Protection program.
"Twelve Angry Men" the play, and both movie versions. This is probably a good movie because it started with a play.
"Daria" - a comedy cartoon for teenagers. Stays trendy with today's youth, yet being understandable by the older generation.
"Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai" - Forrest Whitaker. Directed by Jim Jarmusch.
So, what do you nominate? Try to stick to films that would appeal to the mainstream, but that maybe most people have not heard of because they aren't prime time or heavily pushed by Hollywood, yet not so arcane that they appeal only to those heavily into alternative films.
