Liar said:Lit is big. There are many forums here I never frequent, with regulars that are probably gurus in their own right there. (For instance, who's Catalina/Francisco that Perdita mentioned? I have no idea.)
I also think that being a guru is one rather particular thing. There are many people here that I respect. Some I'd call gurus, who with integrity and knowledge mark their presence. Others I'd instead call muses, whose sheer enhusiasm and energy are their foremost traits. Of course, a guru can be spunky and a muse can be wise too, but those are the primary way I see them.
Examples of Gurus in my hood (foremost AH and the poetry board):
Doc M, Lauren Hynde, Colly, Og, WickedEve...
And muses:
Lou, Sweetnpetite, pop, Echoes, shereads, sweetssubsarahh...
There are more to add to those two lists.
I like that
I agree that there is another category besides guru, and I almost posted to that effect. People who are important, loved, ect but not quite up there with people like og, doc and dita. I never would have put myself in the 'guru group' w/ those folks, but I love that you put me in the 'muse' group.
The main person i was thinking of when I started the post was, of course, Perdita. But I also just remembered, Lee from Bearlee. Does anybody not know him? He may not post a lot on the AH, but he's defiatly at the top of the food chain around here.
ps. ogg, I just saw your post. I didn't intend for anyone's feelings to be hurt. It's not quite like those 'sexy women of lit' posts where eventually everyboy is named at least for politeness sake. I think we all know that some here are veteran posters that we all look up to and respect in a special way. If your not a guru, that's ok. It doesn't mean you are stupid or hated or anything negative. If this were a real contest of some sort, I would refuse the nomination.
However, I am flattered to be mentioned. I do see your point, and I sincerely hope that no one is sad or hurt from not being on this list.
to all, gurus as well as all the beautiful, perverse 'common folk' who make this place great
