Having written more than 2,000 stories here over 11 years under 15 different names and in nearly every category, just my experienced observation and my personal opinion but I believe that Literotica caters more to readers of pornography than it does to readers of erotica.

"Shocking but true. I know. I couldn't believe it either. I'm so embarrassed, not really, actually not at all."

Sadly and unfortunately, no matter how well written my stories of erotica are, they pale in comparison to my sex filled stories and to those stories from other writers who write stories of sex, sex, and nothing more than sex.

Nearly all of my stories over 100,000 views are incest stories, especially mother and son incest stories. Seemingly, all most readers want to read is a mother having sex with her son or a son seducing his mother. What is that about?

"I love you, Mommy. Eww! That's so nasty. That's so disgusting. That's incest."

Seemingly, readers don't want a story with a plot and tension. They don't want to read engaging dialogue. They don't want to read writers who describe their characters by using description as well as imagery. They don't even care if the characters have a name.

"Hey you, suck my cock!"

What they care more about and what they want is to read about are two talking heads having sex, sex, and more sex.

What they want is not so much to read a story and remember a story but to masturbate over a story.

"Oh, my God. That's so disgusting. Jesus, put your thing back in your holster. At least wait until I get off the screen. I really don't want to see you stroking yourself."

Sadly and unbelievably, most readers who read stories on this site are just looking to cum. I know. Can you believe that?

"I feel so used. I feel so abused. As a writer who has unknowingly pandered to men's masturbation needs, instead of feeling proud of all that I've written, I feel so dirty.
I feel as if I need to take a long, hot shower with a scrub brush after drinking copious amounts of alcohol."

Oh, by the way, being that I have your undivided attention, I'll be posting a very long, mother and son incest story in the Nude Day contest. Suffice to write, I'd be insulted if you didn't masturbate and cum at least three times over my mother and son, Mom Gets Drunk with Son on Nude Day story (lol).

If you read my story, think 5, please vote for my story. Thank you in advance for the support of your votes.

You may return to what you were doing, now that I'm off the screen.

I remember reading a previous thread of yours where you preached that character development and plot were THE most important elements to writing a good story, erotic or not. Now it seems you are saying the exact opposite...simple jerk-off material is what people want. I'm confused  Also, it's hard to determine which parts of this post are displaying sarcasm...or not. Or were you just promoting your latest story?

Set a good example for the new kids. Only use quotation marks for quotes.

Also, as authors, only you can define what constitutes a successfully posted story. The only way to get one of those 4.9 ratings or above is to play to the audience, and that balance is a learning experience for all of us every time we hit that submit button.

It doesn't matter what your motivations are for posting as long as you're honest with yourself about them and do your best.

What does it really matter if the story has a plot or not? You should write the story for you, if it has a plot fine, if it doesn't that's fine to. I write my stories because they are in my head and need to come out, and if someone gets enjoyment from them that's great. I've always thought of erotica as pornography, there are just different types of stories.

I've always seen it as

Erotica = story, build up, conflict and depth leading to the hot sex.
Porn= getting right into down and dirty sex with minimal set up.

Both have large audiences here.

I never know what point SJP is trying to make. The post are like three different personalities talking to themselves/each other.
But I do get confused easily.

I like to write. I write for myself, and my best friend. If someone else enjoys what I write, great.

And distracted easily because baseball and I forgot where I was going...

This is what I wanted to comment on.

YES! I completely agree.

And as a person who can be very wordy when I write, if someone doesn't need a story line, then they are certainly welcome to skip over everything I've written.

Just like in real life, I can't just fuck...or suck...or whatever, so nothing I write is like that either.
You want romantic drivel with a little sex, then what I write might be perfect for you.

I think the words erotica and porn are too poorly defined to be useful. If there is to be any thing useful it has to be the subject matter. Things like bestiality, rape, paedophillia- they're what I don't like, particularly when written in a promotional manner. Perhaps the definition could be framed around what is legal and illegal. If porn was the collective name for such things it would be better. At present the word pornography is a word used by the inadequate to describe what others are doing and the inadequate are missing out. It's a word used with the intention to control and lacks integrity in the endeavour. In framing the definition perhaps words like consent and duress should be considered. Is it that since efficient birth control has been with us every thing has changed? There are more than likely other things too but birth control has to be a biggie. Though the word pornography is possibly younger than the introduction of "the pill". I feel it is a word that continues the pre pill attitudes and control of the wowsers and inadequate. How ever one goes about it I feel it will never have clear meaning to the definition.

I remember a post like this from Fred once before. Bored and copy/pasting?

Erotica or Porn?

Whatever the author's intention, the decision is the reader's. Some people would classify everything on Lit as porn; some would delude themselves that it is all erotica.

It doesn't matter. It's a value judgement. If it works for you? It's erotica. If it doesn't? It's porn.

Putting a label on something doesn't change what it is. As Ogg notes, one person's erotica is another's porn, and there's no way to mediate between two people's definitions. Ultimately, it's a fruitless discussion; all it reveals is a person's subjective judgments.

That's not how it works for me. Adding plot and thematic message to porn works fine with me and I don't expend much effort worrying about whether it's erotica or porn.

I've always considered the different between erotica and a porn story to be the same as the difference between geeks and nerds: lots of people try to convince you they are different, all of them come up with differing definitions to distinguish the two from each other, and in the end most people don't care and continue to regard the two as synonymous.
