Literotica does, or at least did, supply stories to other sites -- although those stories were usually supplied with the author's nominal consent. (there used to be a check box on the submission form for permission to use the story that way.)

However, there is a LOT of stories stolen from Lierotica and Laurel is aggressive about defending the authors here.

E-mail or PM Laurel with the information and she'll help get the stories removed -- she's had a lot of practice, unfortunaely.

I have been doing a lot of googling of my stories too, lately, and have found many of them on other sites. This bothers me, especially when the other sites feature violent rape because nothing that I have ever posted is at all violent. One story, about a man masturbating with a dildo, is being used as advertising copy for vibrators. I have PMed Laurel about these, and she responded, but so far nothing has been done about it.

I don't know how it ended up, but it wasn't the story being stolen by another site as is customary. The story had been used as ad copy, to attract visitors that googled for certain key words. Once you tried to click on the link, though, it would redirect you to paid websites, not necessarily related to story.

Whatever the problem, though, I think that the solution always starts with PMing Laurel.

I would guess that there is nothing that can be done about fly-by-night sites stealing from Literotica. However, I am pleased that Laurel is doing what she can to defend the submitted works of authors.

Laurel goes out of her way to protect those who post here. it is one of the primary reasons I choose lit as a venue for my works. In the past, when it was my work being pirated, her intervention has gotten results quickly where I was banging my head against a wall on my own.

The ad about David was stolen from one of my stories except they changed the word "dildo" to their brand name. Otherwise it is exactly the same except my story is longer.

What do you mean by "the pay site guide" or a usenet archive? I have googled some lines from some of my stories and locate them as being pirated that way. Is there an easier way?

At this time and in the forseeble future Literotica does NOT and will not provide anything more than a LINK BACK TO LITEROTICA.

At one time, Lit tested a "Story of the Day" program that causes some comment and confusion about plagiarism and unauthorized links. That Program was NOT implemented and involved only links to Literotica when it was tried.

In short, any Literotica story that isn't on Literotica is either stolen or a separate submission by the author -- If it's YOUR story, complain to the offending site and notify Laurel so she can follow up. If it's another author's story, check with them so they can determine if it's supposed to be there.

Box, The "Pay site guide" I was referring to is the same one that was mentioned at the start of the thread. It appears to be a site guide of links, using stories, usernames, etc, as teasers to draw people in. I meant that my stories were also being used there, in the way Ann Vremont's are.

The usenet archive is a website that appears to originate in central/eastern europe, as nearly as I can guess from the registrar that is returned by a whois search.

My guess is that someone copied the text of at least two of my stories, and uploaded them to the usenet group alt.sex.stories. From there, the "archive" website has collected them and stored them as a viewable page.

I didn't mean that there was an easier way to check for stories being reposted, google is just the first step.

I intend to complain to the sites that are ripping off my stories but how do I do this? After I google something, I can log onto the site that is stealing but what then? Some of them seem to try to take ovfer my computer. I've told Laurel about it but should I also write to the sites?

Almost every site on the internet will accept an e-mail to "Webmaster@<domain-name>" if they don't have a specific "contact us" link on the home page.

If youcan't find a "contact us" link, and you're not into tracking down hosts and domain registrations for a way to make contact, then notifying Laurel is probably the best you can do.

It does occur to me that the various search engines might be able and willing to take action against sites that "appear to be trying to take over my computer" if the problem is more than just pop-up hell -- especially with an added illegality of copyright infringement laid against them.

It's not in the search engines' best interests to direct users to sites with malware and viruses and the point of stealaing stories for most of the offending sites is to increase the number of hits in the search engines.

If enough complaints about copyright violations and other problems with offending sites reach the search engines, just maybe the search engines will blacklist them and negate the benefit of stealing stories?

I've just Googled my nick and one of the results was a link to the very same site, Ann.

It is annoying, because we can't even get in there to see where our OWN stories, stolen without our permission, come up on this pay site. People are paying THEM to view OUR stories. Grrr! This shit seems to happen in phases.
