ok first off try and not flame in this thread literotica is what it is and i like it whatever it is :) and im not having a go at anyone just making observations without saying which is better/worse

i have noticed that with the speed literotica moves nowadays its got a more chat room feel ... rambrat and a number of other posters say that they feel they should reply to every single post directed at them in a thread which i think creates a more chat room feel ... im not saying its a bad thing at all though because having posted in rambrat's threads a few times it is nice that he replies when you post towards him and although i dont know him so well he seems a really nice guy that if i knew better i would like him (i like him anyway but you know what i mean)

however i dont always do this if i read something that someone has written directed at me within a thread i dont reply unless i have something to say back ... is that rude ?

i always assume that the person knows i've read what they've said especially if i've posted later on in the thread ... maybe though this leads to what some posters say about finding others cold or harsh and feeling ignored i know some people said that about lavender recently ... but i find her the total opposite (and she doesn't reply to me every post i direct at her but does read them) maybe the reason why they find some harsh though is because they post in a more bulletin board way not because they are rude

like i said im not saying which is better or worse i think literotica now is a cross between a chat room and a bulletin board but i think if everyone understands both posting styles then they won't find people harsh or over chatty and we're continue to get along with each other

P.S sorry if this post is to long and boring :)

You're never long and boring s-g.

I think it depends on the sort of thread. If it is a long political debate then often the thread starters will come in to Lit and onto the thread only ocasionally to tie up the loose ends and maybe bring the thread back on topic.

If its a friendly 'hey what are you doing today' type thread then the starter may be around for some time and feel the need to interact with every poster.

Every thread is different, every poster unique - what works for one doesn't for another. It's not rudeness, I believe, its individual style.

Hi Miss Sexygirl- you yummy thing!

There are threads that are more like chat rooms- for example the blurt thread includes quite a bit of banter. I try to keep my conversations within this threads, so not to bother folks. But then, there are threads, solely, for information, opinions, advice, etc.

It does move so fast. I'm finding I don't have enough time to read through what I've missed, any longer.

Yeah, I keep trying to chat up the lil indian, but since she cant keep up it doesn't work

So I'd say Bulletin Board.

I think we should just encourage everyone to assume that their posts are being read by whoever they would like to think is reading them. Which is more likely to be the case than not. Then we can all be happy, and not feel neglected. I have always assumed that every one of my posts was read by every single person on the board, and that Lit is a better place because of it. :)

:p

The muppet is attempting to hijack and give a shining example of my previous post. :D

the reason i started this thread is because of the things said to lavender and also because of people talking about hijacks if they were a good or bad thing

i do think there is two distinct styles at literotica but i dont think there is anything wrong with either :)

and harbinger i think you're correct most posters i think read and lurk more then they actually post i know i do anyway

I prefer boards to chat rooms for many reasons but the main one is that I can't type fast enough anymore to keep up. I do often have IM's and there again the speed thing comes in.

Yes I agree, I assume that everyone on the board is reading my replys so I don't get too personal with an individual. but if I were to find someone that seriously interested me then I'd go to PM. As I would hope they would do if the reverse is true, but then I'm kinda of a private person in some matters. I can joke about sex openly and also flirt in general, but if serious then its PM time.

Thank-you, sexy-girl. ;)

I think it's that special balance between chat and bulletin board that makes the Lit GB what it is. Getting the right mix is kind of an art form, and we all go too far one way or the other from time to time. It's all in the timing and the context, which can make it harder for new people to feel like they are fitting in. Just like when I was new, I jumped on Never for hijacking a thread to rag on cymbidia, and I didn't know it was only a joke between friends until YOU PMed me. LOL I was so stupid! (I still remember, thank you.)

i prefer boards to chat rooms also i think literotica is probably to fast to be considered a normal bulletin board but i still like it ... its the only place on the net i post and i only rarely use chat

edited to say lol harbinger yes i remember that still dont worry i had done worse when i first joined

I always assume nobody reads any of my posts...

...and lit is a better place because of it.

But I know what you mean! I feel like no one reads mine!

I've read this Secret Kate. The board has its moods, like all living things, and seasons, too no doubt.

That's just me sexy-girl...and maybe that annoys people.

I just know how I feel when someone doesn't respond. Is it so wrong to add a few pages of chat. I notice the other "in crowd' doing it.

Good points s-g. I remember those comments about lavender too and have mixed feelings about them. Nobody likes being ignored, but on the board at least there's not the expectation of being answered like there is in chat. In chat if you get no answers, you might as well log off. In here you can still blather on and on and if nobody answers, that's cool.

This is the chattiest board I've seen, but it's still a board. I like the balance myself.

A Bulletin Board is a place to sell your worn out lawn mower at the office.

A Chat Room is where you find people like 1hotdudelooking4TANG.

The GB does not fit into the mold. It is in left field.

Very insightful comments, sexy-girl, thanks for starting the thread! :)

I've been going back and forth between boards and chat for years on the net, and the styles are usually quite different. Lit is the closest to being a blend that I have seen.

There is something I am curious about though... that is why do people who are here almost exclusively for the quick back and forth banter come to a board? The chat technology works much better for banter, where everyone is coming up with one liners every few seconds with no need to reload screens. The very speed of the interaction can make it a lot more fun, when you have a group of smart, fun and flirtatious people in a chat room. For fast, fun joking and flirting, why go with a clunky and inefficient technology (for bantering) like a board?

No complaints on my part, each to their own. Just curious...

I think it's because chat rooms can move so fast and have a continuous moving screen. Here, you have the time to address someone and a quote option to insure that a reply is understood to be directed at a particular poster.

Mas*** and bindi were the best boards to chat in. It was sooo fast and full of sooo many brainiacs. I guess there is a lot of lonely desi peeps put there. so sad/ but that was the most thrilling net moment for me so far.

That's right; it's more conversational than chatty and less debatey than argument.
