Lit Policy on Drugs

I'm sure I've read a story with them in before. I cannot see a problem tbh.

IS there a Lit policy on drugs? If a character is using/selling, etc?

I've never heard of one. I've never written a story where drugs figured in it, but I think I have read some.

I've written stories that have drug references in them and haven't had any problem. If we were all writing for a right-wing Christian magazine (snicker - that definitely will be the day!) I'd advise you to hold off, but as Lit's theme is equally contentious I say go for it.

Just be prepared for some flak, though. You get people who come across as being wonderfully cool, enlightened and amoral, but wave a joint in front of their nose and they're likely to emerge as a 21st century Joyce Grenfell, who will write at length to tell you that drugs are bad without really offering reasons.

Good luck!

Valentines in the Dregs not only has reference to drug usage, but uses it as a key factor in the story, theme, and, to a degree, the title.

The heroine was an addict, the villain was a dealer, and it not only got accepted, but went over surprisingly popularly.

So, given that, I'd say drug usage is in the clear as long as you don't provide the address of a known drug dealer and urge all your readers to check him out.

I don't think there is any policy, stories and srp both have direct reference to drug use and abuse.

LOL!!

Damn! I guess I should have been more specific, that's just what I was thinking of doing!

what with the "underage" thing being so hardline, just had to check... ya never know... and it's good to hear other's experience of writing something like it and how it's received...

and now that I've said that, I think I'm going another way, anyway! :)
