Lit Member Meetings?

Do Members Ever Meet?

I am fairly new to Lit and without appearing desperate (which I may well be!) I was just wondering if there is ever a meeting in CA for members in that State?
I have actually just seen one for the NorthWest...so I am assuming there are such meetings..but any in CA?

I personally have never hosted a get together for a message board group but a few years back I helped fund one for an anime chat I programmed about 4 years ago (3 years ago was the meeting) up in Toronto and it was a major flop. I think 5 people showed up not including me cause I was unable to make it. I've planned to do something similar again one day but I'm w/o money until who knows when. Maybe one day in the near future if I can find enough people to get a design crew together I can try again and host a gathering for people to attend from around the globe. But "if" is the biggest 2 letter word ever so ~shrugs~ ...

LordKronos: When I was in the UK, we had many meeting (UK Over 40 Chat room from AOL) and they went down a treat....and monies were raised for local charities too...BUT we all had to pay upfront..and that meant the organizers were not out of pocket.

Vegas would be a nice place (yes, I know it's in Nevada lol-but it is cheap!)

Yes April, I do agree with you. However, being a newbie on Lit, I would hate to come up with a grand idea of arranging a nice long weekend in Vegas, say Friday and Saturday night...or be greedy and go for a Thursday to Saturday in, say October, at say, the Mirage and then to find out it's been done before and a total flop!

Still, if only a few turn up, it's not as if there is nothing else to do in Vegas is there? As long as the mix is right, I am sure fun could be had...and stories to be written and told.

Strangely, I have just submitted a story called Vegas!

for a board this size I would probally go w/ a place like Vegas or Madison Square Garden just cause it would hold the most. Still takes a lot of planning though and money up front even if the guests do pay. Cause you have to figure out how much to charge and everything. It would be nice to do something like that but I'd have to pull together a team to set it up so it was done right.

I am always willing to help out on things like that..I have a fair number of years under my belt of organizing meetings and the like...if you need help, please feel free to let me know.

I've heard a number of folks over the past year attempting to organize Lit get togethers, and as far as I know none have been realized. If something were planned for those of us in California I'd be interested in going, but it would really depend on location. That way, if only a few people show up, I'd still have something to do. Also, it's important to understand that many people here want to maintain their anonymity, so that would automatically suggest a lower attendance.

For me, Vegas wouldn't do it. Never really cared for the place, and after 6 hours I'm itching to be away from there - FAST! 'Sides, if it's California members you are looking to meet, it should be in California. Otherwise, we could always just crash some one else's party in another state!

thanx ukin but w/o money there's no chance and I'm majorly w/o currently. I'll keep you in mind though.

sexychele ... that is a major issue. that's probally why it would take a year's worth of planning before actually trying to do it. I'm no where near CA but I've got friends there. CA & TX are the 2 most internet populated states.

I live in the North bit of CA...just above SF..but I am willing to go South (I just love going South....but that is another story!) and even willing to assist or even organize something..all we need is a few suggestions of WHERE the majority, regardless of numbers, would like to visit. Being totally new to the USA and CA...I would love to visit other parts of the State and I intend too, soon...but what a nice way to start...a meeting of like minded people, just out for a laugh and no other real expectation or promises.

Ideas anyone?
