Speaking of servers... Have one on yours now, hit level five, and the youngest woke up.

YAY! I'll be watching for you. Eventually I'll get a screen shot for an AV

So glad it's not just me! ;)

Falling, what do you do when your friends are hooked? Join in, or have a one-person intervention?

Write them off and make new ones.

Sad to say, I lost one of my best friends to WarCrack, and his girlfriend was... to put it mildly, pissed. They went from talking about forever to not speaking... ever.

It is an evil, evil disease that I refuse to allow into my home, no matter how much begging and pleading and "I'm just -curious!-" there may be.

*puts foot down, hoists pants back up around waist, and looks grim*

Feh, like so many things, some people take it to extremes.

AB and I made an agreement that we would not play any online games unless we BOTH played. We've gotten several RL friends involved in the game, and since they live at a distance, it gives us a chance to get together and do something fun without the price of airfare.

I play about once or twice a week, sometimes more, sometime less. Recently I've hardly played at all.

I've got some friends who sank into the games and others who play it like what it is - a diversion. I've got friends who sink into televised sports with equal avidity. Others sink into relationships, or new hobbies, or less desireable things like drinking or excessive partying. There's not much that can't be done to such an extent that it interferes with life.

Don't blame the game, blame the person who choses to let it take over.

Dead right, Mal.

Anything can be used in one of three basic ways: as recreation (a way to play and regenerate and renew), a sacred communion (a way to connect with whatever we feel is greater than oursleves), or an addiction (a way to avoid the pain of what has happened in our lives and to avoid the truth of who we really are at our best).

Anything being used as an addiction to avoid pain is less a choice and more an obsession and compulsion. This is hard to understand for people who do not have an addiction, and harder to understand for people that are in denial about their addiction(s).

Mal, from what you say, video games are simply fun recreation for you.

All I say is that I like it at the top of the food chain, and will eat animals just to stay there, thankyouverymuch.

"Don't kid yourself, Timmy. If a cow got the chance, she'd eat you and your entire family."
