Lit. Editors rejecting work without even viewing them?

Hi guys

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I have posted two pieces recently, one was a follow on second part to a serieal that I had hopes for.

In both cases the read indicators showed the pieces had never been viewed and the reaons for rejections in both cases showed clearly that the site guardians had not even read the content. No one tell me that the view indicators don't record until the works are posted I have already posted comments about another rejection that has 27 viewings and still growing.

I know the site is busy and there are gazillions of hits Blah! Blah! but if they are going to treat authors like this it is not worth the bother submitting!

I do this so that my stuff gets read and I get feed back. But with the feedback drying up all round if Laurel & Manu can't be bothered why should anyone?

I know my stuff is not total rubbish as it has been reasonably well recieved to date. Find my earlier posts at http://www.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=770476&page=submissions

1. When the story is in Pending, you don't see the views of the editors.
2. Maybe it was because serial is not spelled "serieal".

Some times things like view counts do not get updated for a while. I have had story submissions that had more votes than views.

If you have an issue, I would suggest that you PM Laurel. She is good about getting back with authors.

Sometimes there are no views shown even immediately after a story is posted. I had one this morning, but when it was posted, it showed zero views.

However, sometimes there are views shown before a story is posted. It may depend on how controversial the story is. My newest one is just an ordinary piece of incest smut. :D

Believe me, the views do update while pending. I've had as many as fifteen views before the story went live.

To the OP: You should see the views update later on in the day. Views do not update instantly, they are incremented by regular database updates. You should see the editor views on the submissions before the day is over.

When I first started posting stories on Lit in 2001, there were always 3 views by the end of the day prior to the day the story was posted. Back then, posting was typically three days from submission. Now, I don't understand it at all. Sometimes there are views, sometimes not and it takes a week or more to post.

i don't think the 'read indicator' shows anything about the reading of the story by Laurel and whoever. i'm sure they can read a story without it ever showing.

do you have any other indication your story wasn't read? note: it is possible the portions were skimmed; there are hundreds of stories every week. but you could ask for a review.

When there is a question PMing Laurel politely is the way to go. She's usually very good at getting back with folk. If she doesn't right away, don't panic. . .she too has a life and has had computer issues that sometimes causes delays. Good luck with your stories. ~ Red :rose:

I have also had views in the double digits before a story posted. And, I have had no views listed until after it posted. One such is the story that posted today, and there have been others recently.

I dunno about that....most of stories register reads before approval...

My guess, off the top of my head is it failed the automatic spellcheck screen. Was the story spellchecked with a word processor before submitting? (I've forgotten to do that once myself, I was so excited to get the story done).

If a story is rejected, they don't usually say something like: "We rejected the story because....." It'll say something like "Did the story have misspellings or grammatical errors?" or "Did the story involve sex with an animal?" or other questions about reasons for rejection. I haven't had a story rejected in quite a while, but that is the kind of thing that was being done then.

By the way, there's nothing wrong with using a spellchecker, but it is necessary to proofread by reading it also. Spellcheckers miss too many errors to be relied on.

The last two stories I had approved went up without any views.
The one before that had 7 views for three days before it finally appeared.

*shrugs* got me beat.

Unless they've changed the software so pending stories no longer show views.

Sorry about the misspelling in my post, I was so mad I didn't double check and so I guess some of you were right to think the rejections were down to poor spelling etc.

The reasons for rejection given were questions in the usual way.

1. Was there an underage (under 18 years old) sexual relationship in my story?

and the other;

2. Is there bestiality in your story? (Mythical creatures like aliens, unicorns, and talking magic beasts are allowed, but not real life animals such as dogs, horses, etc.)

In both cases the answer is no!

In the first the context of the characters situation indicates that both were at least 18. I hate it when a piece clumsily refers to a birthday party or baldly states 'Samantha was over 18'. I try to be a little more subtle. It just says to me that the work wasn't read properly and the reference was missed.

In the second piece there are just no animals anywhere in it! Even a cursory scan would show that.

As a teaser in the end notes I made a reference to a future character as 'a sadistic psycho bitch and breeder of Great Danes' It was meant as an in joke with one of my feedback people who keeps pestering me to 'let loose the dogs of love' on my main character!

I do understand that the site is run by volunteers and that there is a huge volume of work for them but, I put in sweat too writing the damn stuff.

There is a deal in these circumstances of mutual respect for each others hard work.

I should stop now before I bust a rant vessel!

I agree with you about the clumsily stating that characters are over 18 and one of my stories got rejected repeatedly until I took the clever advice of a kind AHer and inserted a disclaimer before the story saying 'all characters are of or above the legal age to engage in sexual activities' or some such. If you do that then you don;t have to mess with the story itself :)

In about 40 stories I have posted on Lit (under several names) I've had one story rejected. The rejection not asked that I look at correct punctuation of quotations and resubmit. I did, it was accepted. Since then I've seen stories with quotations punctuated far worse than my rejected story.

After talking to a number of writers whos stories have been rejected, I sometimes think the editor rejecting a story picks on their personal pet peeve.

This may be the case with your stories. Who knows?

Thanks guys, I guess I just needed to get that off my chest!

I should just shut up and make the changes to please the editors. Isn't that what all writers have to do in the end if they want to get their stuff read?

I suppose we are all whores in the end.

{I might just sneak in a little oversexed Yorkie under the table though and see if they spot it!}

If they do, just resubmit it with an author's note saying -

"All the animals used in this story are above the age of eighteen" :D

I think I might include that myself, even though none of my stories have any animals at all :D
