Is it a hidden ballot? O shit. Well, I said East of Eden, by Steinbeck.

I voted for Fierce Invalids Home From Hot Climates. No reason why this should be a secret poll? I'll happily re-read any of those books - or re-read the ones I already have. I'm hoping this isn't a one time deal anyway and that we'll read quite a few books over time. I love Robbins and this is the only book of his I haven't read yet...

I would love to maybe at a future time but at this present time two stikes lie against me;

The local library is so ancient the newest book in thier is like dated 1940something

And the cost of new books in canada are incrediby insensitive to the reader. the cheapest book on that list God Debis is a good 40 dollars once tax hits it. :(

maybe at a latter time, I want o stay ahead of my bills right now as it

I do look forward to peoples thoughts and stuff on the books you will read

Is that Harold Robbins?

I'm just wild about Oscar, so that's how I voted, but I don't really have a preference. Sounds like fun.

Dilly, I love Robbins as well, but I have to admit to having difficulty getting through his more recent offerings. I couldn't complete Skinny Legs and All and it took me forever to get through Fierce Invalids. It was worth the extra effort, of course, but I'm dying to be drawn into something of his again, like I was Cowgirls and Jitterbug Perfume.

I voted for Frog Pajamas because I'm a die-hard fan. Is that his latest?

Oh, I forgot.

P.S. Todd, why don't you buy them used off of ebay or Amazon (they sell used as well)?

because i don't do credit cards and even if i did those sites confer in american prices so the cheapest you could find would be doubled in cnadain dollars once you facto in shiiping and handling, exchange rate etc. :(

Todd... if you want God's Debris, even if we're not reading it, I'll send it to you. I can pick it up for about $14.

oh, and *bump* I'll vote soon, I promise

someone offered to loan/buyfor me the boks already and i am afraid ihad to decline thier and your offer as i don't realy knw whenI would be able to pay you back for the book or if a loaner i would feel really badly if any unforsen accident happened to mark or damage the book.

I do aprecitate the offer though, i just feel uncomfortable doing it and not being able to be sure of when repayment would beable to be made :(

Again thank you

Lavender can tell us what these books are about?

like I said i'd like to be involved but there are few books I can read, I have to be into them.

so would like to know what they are about, if it's something i could posibly read i'll vote.

Why is the book I have the least interest in reading winning? *sigh*

Read the other thread that Lavy links to - I've said what Robbins books are about there.

As far as finding out more - about any of these books just go to http://www.amazon.com and look them up.

As far as getting them in paperback - I think they all are. You can also buy used books at http://www.half.com (if not in your own town) and you can go check there now to see if any of these are in stock.

I have read all but the first two books in the poll, and I must say I loved Fierce Invalids (it's the source of my signature quote, btw). I thought it was his most entertaining book since Jitterbug Perfume, and I think it would provide plenty of fodder for discussion. You've got politics (including sexual politics, which seems to be of interest to the board of late), espionage, theology, the occult, history, linguistics (the main character, Switters, prides himself on knowing the term for 'pussy' in every known language), and sex, among many other things.

It's not me, yall. And I didn't go vote with multiple personalites either.

Give this a day or so. Let it ride and see what happens.

My apologies for fucking up the title of the book. I've had a mental block on that name ever since I read the damn thing.

Dillinger, I say that, regardless of the outcome of the poll, we start a renegade Tom Robbins discussion group. Pick a book, any book, well, except maybe "Still Life with Woodpecker," because I think he stepped on his dick with that one. *g*

Maybe after that we can branch out to Richard Brautigan...

Raising hand to join the renegade Tom Robbins group.

Can we start with Jitterbug Perfume? :)
