Okay, boys and girls, this is a whole new ball of wax. The little Literotica Survivor grudge match between Deb and myself has taken on a new dynamic.

Laurel will now be offering prizes to the top five ranking participants.

Although things are tentative while we flesh them out, I will post what we have so far.

Considering the previous discussion on this topic, and the fact that it was not an “official” contest before, we are going to give it a week of discussion before we finalize the rules and point system. Anyone wishing to participate, or simply make suggestions, feel free to post here or email me at MadamePandora@aol.com (If it makes you feel more comfortable, you can also CC Laurel and/or Deborah). Laurel has stated that she is in full support of the contest, she simply doesn’t have a great deal of time or resources to devote to it, especially considering that it will last the remainder of 2001.

Please keep in mind that this isn’t really about prizes or money, but a motivational tool for Lit’s more prolific writers. There will probably some heated exchanges (here at Lit everything has a heated exchange eventually) but, it’s all in the spirit of competition.

The contest won’t “officially” begin until the week of March 19th. Feel free to make “guesses” for immunity this week, but they will not count toward the official contest.

This will be an open contest for anyone who wants to join before 12/31/01. The only drawback to not participating actively would be lacking the benefits of the previous immunity challenges. You must declare yourself as a participant prior to 12/31/01 so that we know to include you in the final tally (in other words, participation is not automatic – we’re not going to add up all Lit authors – you have to ask to be included in the counting).

The revised, proposed official rules are below.

LITEROTICA SURVIVOR OFFICIAL RULES:

The challenge is open to any Literotica Author who wishes to participate. You can join the contest at any time and your previously posted stories will still be counted into the final tally.

1. You get one point for posting in any of the below 26 Literotica categories (only Novels and Novellas and Chain Stories have been excluded). A collaboration will be counted toward both contributing authors, but no one author is allowed to have more than 3 collaborative works counted in the contest.

Audio Poetry
Audio Stories
BDSM
Celebrities
Erotic Couplings
Erotic Reviews
Exhibitionist & Voyeur
Fetish
Gay Male
Group Sex
How To
Humor & Satire
Incest
Interracial Love
Lesbian Sex
Loving Wives
Mature
Mind Control
Non-English
Non-Erotic
NonConsent
NonHuman
Poetry
Romance
Toys
Extreme

2. You get a 5-point bonus for every 10 categories you post in and a 15-point bonus for posting in all 26.

Thus, if you post in 15 categories, you'll get 15 points for each category, plus a 5 point bonus for posting in at least 10 categories for a total of: 20.

If you post in all 26 categories (in addition to being pretty fucking cool) you would have 26 points for each posted category, 5 bonus points for your first 10, 5 bonus points for your second 10, and 15 bonus points for all 26. Your total would be: 51.

3. Only stories posted after 01/01/01 but before 01/01/02 are eligible for the contest.

4. There will be an IMMUNITY challenge each week, initially based upon the TV Show Survivor. After the show ends, another weekly challenge will be devised. Any author who posts and correctly guesses the player voted off Survivor for the week, gets "immunity" from a category of their choice. The immunity counts as an "entry" and thus, if you had 10 immunities you would be eligible for the 5 point bonus. There is no limit to the number of immunities you can win.

5. If you post a story in a category you have declared an immunity in, you get a single bonus point, but that story will not count toward other bonus points. (Thus, if you've declared immunity from "Incest" and then write an incest story, you get the two points - one for the immunity and one for the story - but you only have credit for 1 category toward the 5 or 15 point bonuses).

6. You get one bonus point for a story which is awarded an "E."

There is no other criteria for the eligibility of stories based on any subjective issues of quality or content. If a story is accepted and posted by Literotica, it is eligible for the contest. Period.

Please note, you get NO extra points for posting two stories in the same category (i.e. you get ONE point for incest even if you've posted 10 stories there). And only your first story posted in a given category is eligible for the "E" bonus point.

Tentative Prizes: Each of the five top placers will get a “goodie package” of assorted Adult Toys and Videos. First place, in addition to their box of goodies gets a nice, crisp $100.00 bill. Literotica will supply all prizes.

Rules may be updated or more clearly defined at the contest continues, but there should be no major changes affection the outcome once official rules are decided upon. (Approx. 03/19/01)

Have fun, break a leg, here’s mud in your eye

Madame Pandora, you know how I hate to complain but you missed a category. We have to write a fucking non-erotic story.

I'm game!

I've been meaning to branch out into different categories, trying not to get stale. Where & when do you have to post who gets booted off Survivor? I don't usually watch the show, so that may be a problem. Have to do some wild guessing.

Just for your convenience (you can check if you wanna at my profile page) here is a list of my posted stories, categories, and what has an E. All posted after 1/1/01.

Coming Home was posted 1/9/01 in the Romance category and has an E.

Editors & Etiquette was posted 2/17/01 in the How To category. Does this one count?

Lusty Blue Eyes was posted 3/4/01 in the Incest category and has an E.

Pastorale was posted 1/24/01 in the Erotic Couplings category.

Burning was posted 1/7/01 in the Erotic Poetry category.

I Want You was posted after 1/15/01 in the Erotic Audio category. I'm not sure exactly when.

Seducing the Imagination was posted 3/15/01 in the Toys category.

So I've racked up 9 points so far. Would you rather I didn't post this information and just deleted it? Who is keeping track of points? It could be feasible to have each author post the link, date, cat, and E by editing so that keeping track is easier. How do you plan to do it MP/Deb?

Eborahday entbay veroay ethay eskday nday ookshay erhay assay. Laggfay queakedsay nday anray wayaay, ethay ildoday orgottenfay onay ethay loorfay.

My entry into the Non-English cat. ;) Seriously, I do Korean, does Laurel have the fonts for that?

I'll play but Survivor is way behind here so no point in me trying for immunity. God, I'll just have to write a lot of bloody stories!!!

I wanna play. I don't have a chance in hell, since I don't watch Survivor. But it sounds like great motivation to branch out!

For the record, I have a non-human (Blood Lust 2) and a poem (Fixation) for the new year. So I guess that's 2?

Wow, it hasn't even started and I'm behind! I better get going ;)

Deb – “a fucking non-erotic story” ROFLMAO! I love ya, you oxymoronic wench. I changed the rules above.

Muff – The way I would like to do it is, through the year, have each author keep their personal tallies and then, at the end of the year, send them to me (or post them on one thread) to verify. We’re only in March and the contest goes through the year, so posting lengthy summaries every week might get old. Then again, it might incite others to pick up their pace, too, so who can say? Personally, I think it’s fun to say “Hey gang, I’m at 9 now! Neener Neener Neener!” (But then again, how else will Deborah know I’m kicking her ass if I don’t remind her?). BTW – I don’t think I’m at 9…but I haven’t checked. More likely I’m at 5 or 6.

Christo, Crazy, RisiaSkye – There are only 8 more weeks of the Survivor TV show and then we’re going to have a different type of immunity challenge (at least this is the theory) thru to the end of the year. In the meantime, I’ll post the remaining players at the opening of each Author’s Challenge thread and you can pick one. (REMEMBER, this week’s won’t count.) However, the list of current players is: Elizabeth, Alicia, Nick, Roger, Colby, Keith, Tina, Amber…and the skank, Jeri.

Keep ‘em coming, gang. Especially hit me with some ideas for the next phase of immunity challenges. ;-)

Also – I’ve had a question in email that I’d like some input on from the rest of you. Regarding “audio” and “foreign language” should we allow stories which have previously been posted or new stories to be “double counted?”

Example #1: My story Janie & Dell is not eligible for the contest because it was posted in December of 2000. Should I still be able to read it and post it as an audio or translate it into another language for the contest? Seeing as it’s lengthy, I don’t know that I’d do that, but it’s an interesting question.

It isn’t a NEW story, but it is putting a new spin on and old one, so I wasn’t sure how the concept would be received.

It might get some other authors involved seeing as their previously written stories could still be counted if they put a little additional work into them.

Example #2: Should this also hold true for new stories? Should I be able to read my story Pecan Sandies as an audio, or should Muff be allowed to translate her story Pastorale into Korean and have them “double count?” I don’t have a problem with this either, but I’d like the reaction of others.

Input, please.

Count me IN!

What a way to begin my Lit writing career! Wahoo!!! Already have 4 stories in different categories anyhow, well that will be appropriate for different categories. One waiting for publication already. YaY...

Re-using old material for "new" stories in the contest?Really, why promote laziness? I'm going to write an original (mostly cause translation is a BITCH), but if Laurel can't post it because of the font thing, then does it still count even though it's gibberish to everyone?

As for keeping tallies, when a new story is posted, the author can edit their post on the thread rather than make a new one. To make things easier for all, after the rules have been modified or not following posts (like this one) then Laurel can delete them. Except for Nightlight's, he'd freak if his total # of posts went down.

Well, Muff...either way on the keeping track part. I'm cool with it.

As for re-using a story in these two categories (audio and foreign lingo) promoting laziness I don't think that's the case. First, it's no small effort to read and record a story, or to translate one, either. I'm kind of hoping this contest, if anything, helps to boost Lit's Non-English and Audio cats where there aren't a whole lot of entries.

Second, I would rather have someone read an older, but really well written story than to rush through some new one. Of course, the ideal is to have a NEW and WELL WRITTEN Audio story, but there's quite a few really hot stories posted here and I'd LOVE to hear their authors read them.

Hey...I'm looking at this as a win-win situation. The site gets more entries and we get motivation. I'm just trying to think of the best ways to coax people.

Hell, maybe we could get DCL to read the first chapter of Teaching Patti...

I've only been on Lit for a few weeks, but I'd like to be counted in this contest.

I like the idea of converting a good, currently posted story into the audio or non-english category. I don't think the dates should matter too much whether it was originally posted before this year or not. It will benefit those two categories for Lit readers, which is a great promotion opportunity.

I'm not a Survivor fan either, actually, we don't even own a T.V. that picks up channels, we can only play videos on it! But if a list of the current survivors are posted, I'll just pick one and hope for the best.

I was wondering - maybe if there are readers on here that would be willing to do translations, they could list their names on a page, like the Volunteer Editors? I don't know anyone that could translate a story for me at all. Only people I know speak American or Bubba *grin*. They could get recognition in story headers and any other kind of thanks we can think up.

And my final question, how do you record a story for posting?

If you provide me with the name of the font, I can put that font name in tags for that particular story. Anyone who happens to have that font on their computer will be able to see it - for anyone else, it will look like line noise. However, anyone who CAN read Korean will more than likely have the font, and those who don't have the font will be less likely to read Koreaen, so they probably wouldn't be able to make head nor tails of it anyhow.

MP - I assume that you will be compiling a list of the participants. Don't send it to me, please. It's cool to post that list here, but I'd rather not have those names in my head when I'm editing stories. I don't want to feel pressured to give out E's for the contest's sake, dig? ;)

So, what's the deadlines? When do we have to have all the final list of would-be Survivors? Maybe we should have a list of the Survivorites posted somewhere in a table with all the categories listed, with each story checked off and points tallied so us spectators and the other contestants can keep score in 'real' time. I could put that together if someone gets me the info (finalized list of names of contestants, eligible cats & challenges, point worths of everything, etc.). Or, if someone else is hellbent on being scorekeeper, that's cool too. I'm more than willing if you need me in that capacity. :)

Pseudonym's pseudonym?

What if...

stuff is published on Lit. under different Usernames? It still counts to the one author, right? ;)

I want in, but am afraid that even if i do write all 26 stories i will still loss due to it being an elitist contest

Huh?

Laurel - do you mind if I expound on your question to Todd...

HUH?

Alright there are 26 stories to be written, several authors doing the writing. If two or more people both write 26 stories each, I know you are not going to send more than one top prize and you are not going to send $100 to each tied winner. So thus to break a tie would have to refer to the voting scale. The voting will automatically support the Elitist author {KM, MP, WS, Dillinger, Deborah} those who are expert writers. Someone like me who may keep up story per story will not stand a cahnce due to poor inferior less practiced refined skills. Thus making it merely a contest for the elitist group of authors.

Feel free to correct me where I am wrong Laurel

Elitist?

Hopefully elitist isn't quite the word you're looking for.

---------------------------------------------------
e·lit·ism or é·lit·ism (-ltzm, -l-)
n.

The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.

The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class.
Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class.
------------------------------------------------------

If they are the better writers, then it is an actual and not a perceived superiority.

You are such a silly boy! I'm amazed that you think that badly of me, dear Todd. If indeed there is a tie, we will find a non-biased way of breaking the tie.

Yes, I do think the person who writes the best as well as most prolifically should win the contest. Do they give out Olympic medals to swimmers who barely swim? Runners who barely run? Is it elitist of the Olympic committee to give the gold to the best athlete? I think not.

But I assure you that I am totally unbiased as far as contests go. I don't care who the money goes to. I'm going to be starting up monthly contests in April, with monthly cash prizes, and I won't care where that money goes so long as it goes to the person who rightly garners the votes. I don't fix things for anyone. No author has every asked me to do so because they know I have integrity. If you think I lack integrity, then I don't know what to say except that you're wrong. ;)

Gulim or Gulim Che is the name of the font I use the most in Korean. I think you need an IME or something, I don't know how it works on your end. Korean doesn't work like English so I think you may need more than a new font. Dunno, I'm not a webguru sexy hot babe like you.

LOL! This sexy webguru babe is pretty clueless about Korean fonts...but I will learn! We'll make it happen, and then I'll know how to do it next time. ;)

Actually, Todd, this contest de-emphasizes voting/rating and instead focuses more on profilic versatility. Huh?

Like Christo said, a chance for authors to branch out into different categories and not get stale. And a little friendly competition to make it more entertaining.

My own opinion is that for the "audio" categories and the "foreign" category an author should be able to use anything he/she has written, doesn't have to be something "new." The objective being, from a Literotica persepective, to get more audio and foreign stuff posted.

LOL @ KillerMuffin and Laurel. Does anybody know what the extent of the Korean readership is? There could be millions out there just waiting for stories! Same with stories in a few other languages. How many people are there in China?

Regarding circe!'s question, a story written under a pseudonym should definitely count. Of course, you have to eventually tell what the story/pseudonym is.

For "immunity" you have to pick one of these 8 names and post your selection, here I guess, before the show begins next Wednesday ...

Elisabeth
Nick
Rodger
Amber
Colby
Jerri
Keith
Tina

If you pick the one who gets voted off, you get "immunity." Most people likely will pick Jerri. But remember, one of those 8 people will get "immunity" and can't be voted off. If you are not familiar with "Survivor" just pick one at random or chose the same name someone addicted to the show chooses.

Perhaps to break any ties (the likelihood seems rather remote anyway) we could do what they will do in the end on "Survivor." Those playing the game will ultimately decide who gets the $1M.

So Todd, don't forget to take your Midol vitamins today and start writing!

well then even if I try my absoulute hardest and submit the 9 stories I have complete and the additional 17 I have started, it sounds like I still don't stand a chance. but i will play along anyways
