I’ve noticed reddit has a Literotica subreddit as well as a “sex stories” subreddit. Is it a bad idea to share links to your own stories on reddit? Is there any upside / downside you know of?

I have wondered the same. I'm am an avid redditor just like I was once a prolific UseNet user. For those who don't know, UseNet was Reddit before Reddit was created except that UseNet was completely free (as in freedom and not ad supported) and hosted by universities and companies around the world. Usenet had sub-forums like alt.sex.stories and alt.sex.stories.moderated as well as countless technical and news sub-forums. I recall alt.health.thyroid or some such. [Edit: About 5% of Alt.sex.stories lives on as ASSTR.org]I’ve noticed reddit has a Literotica subreddit as well as a “sex stories” subreddit. It's a way of feeding traffic to your Lit story file. Lit benefits because traffic will increase the site's ranking, and you benefit by added traffic, too. It was porn that killed UseNet. The universities and companies didn't want to host the increasingly extensive pornography. The death knell was people posting pirated porn videos to the forums including forums that were not related. It was the wild west with no guardrails. Companies didn't want to pay for streaming pirated videos or be sued by MPAA.

Some jokester told President Calvin "Silent Cal" Coolidge, "I made a bet that I could make you say three words." Cal replied, "You lose."One chuckle brother said to the other chuckle brother, "I bet I can make you laugh."
I owe you a dollar.
“LIKE”On Monday, a chicken walked into the library and took out three books. The following day, the chicken returned the books and selected another three. The same thing happened on Wednesday and on Thursday.
On Friday, the chicken arrived just as the librarian was about to go on her lunch break. This time, when the chicken left, the librarian followed her.
The chicken walked all the way to the edge of town, and then down a wooded lane, past a farmhouse and a farmyard, and across a small field to a pond, beside which a frog was sitting on a log.
The chicken placed the three library books on the log. ‘Book, book, book,’ the chicken said.
The frog peered at the books and then, slowly, shook his head. ‘Read it. Read it. Read it,’ he said.
The librarian watched while the chicken gathered up the books …

Lit will only have a problem if you try to feed the other way.
That's a good point, didn't think of that. But then, the only Reddit I've ever wandered through was a Kubrick blog, recycling the standard sources on Kubrick from thirty years ago (astonishingly, he's been dead nearly twenty years, it doesn't seem that long ago).A possible downside would be that you might attract as many trolls as readers.
I use reddit and enjoy it. But it does have its share of unsavory elements. I am a subscriber to the Lit sub, and have answered a few questions there, but haven't linked my stories.
